For these I did only slight photoshop editing (a couple recolorings and some basic enhancement). I was trying to get a feel for how borders make the work stand out and contribute to the piece as a whole. I have found that a thick top and bottom border looks better than a general edge border. So how do you like em and which should I use?

The top and the bottom ones are the best.

However, as a person that works with anime renders often, I feel that you could've done a bit more to the backgrounds or the image. If you're just experimenting the boarders though, then you did the best with those two.

EDIT: Font for 5th sig plz :P

I think your borders are actually taking away from the final product. The 1st and 4th ones are fine... the others... not so great.

Other than that, they're incredible.

I kinda agree with you Desimodontidae. I like borders because it make the work stand out better because with large sigs like mine, if you have no border it looks out of place. I hate the 5th one, the 1st is my favorite, the 2nd and 3rd need to be less opaque. The 4th one is alright with me. Remember though, this is all experimentation. Also, do you believe borders in general detract from the overall piece or my style of borders (thick top and bottom) or the way I presented them(style is okay but needs work)?

Also MiC, the font on the 5th one is called Evanescent. I got it at dafont.com.
I didn't do much with the renders because it was an experiment with borders. If I decide to use one of these I will most likely do something with the render itself as well as fix anything about the border that I don't like.

Yes, the first one is brilliant. I quite like the second too, though  when I pictured it on it's own as a sig somehow it didn't look right.

I disagree with Desi mostly- the borders are a vital part of your work- but I agree that the border on the last one wasn't great.

I think the first one might look even better if you put the bottom border behind the cat woman. Hmmm.

thats a good idea MT11, i never though of putting the border behind her. I'll do that if it turns out to be the chosen one.

I think the borders are too dramatic... they need to be more subtle...

IMO, that is...
