DON'T ASK FOR MY SOURCE. You will not be disappointed...

There are 34 playable characters (excluding transformations).
There are 20 starting characters, 14 hidden characters.
Six characters have been removed from the last game.
One of the "Original 12" has been removed.
There are 15 newcomers (excluding transformations).
All but one of the represented franchises from Super Smash Bros. Melee will be returning.
Two character profiles will be revealed this coming week at the DOJO!! (one veteran and one newcomer).

Only reason why this was brought uo is because the newcomer isconfirmed. This can easily however be dismissed if the returning character is not confirmed.

Fake, Proof because of these 2 lines:

-Six characters have been removed from the last game.
-All but one of the represented franchises from Super Smash Bros. Melee will be returning.

To say six characters will be removed from the last game is contradicting the statement below it, since only one franchise in melee had up to 6 characters and that was the Mario franchise.

Interesting character concept, though I do wonder why they couldn't have named him Ash.

Interesting. I was reading about a possible Pokemon Trainer character the other day, though it had the trainer fighting directly with items from the Pokemon games (bicycle, super rod, repels, etc). But this works just as well.
Also, it's based off of Red, the original Pokemon Trainer, rather than Ash, the main character of the anime, because Sakurai said that he wouldn't add any characters that haven't been on a Nintendo console. Ash himself has never appeared in a Pokemon game, so they chose Red. Also, Red's the only recurring Pokemon trainer in the series - he appeared in Red & Blue, as a hidden boss in GSC, and again as the protagonist of Leafgreen and Firered. If they remake GSC to be compatible with Diamond and Pearl, he'll appear in Generation IV too.

Maybe so Warxe, but 1) Ash is a default name for starting a new Pokemon game (yes I did just look this up to make sure <_<) so it appeared in the series and 2) if it's based off Red, why not name it Red? Isn't ANY name better than no name?

Other than people with no creativity whatsoever, who really named their trainer Red? It's seen as the "official" name of the trainer, but pretty much everyone who owns a Pokemon game has a different name for their in-game counterpart. Thus, for a character who has so many different names, it's only reasonable to give him the name "Pokemon Trainer".

Doesn't mean I don't agree with you, though. Red or even Ash would be a far superior name to his current generic title. Maybe you'll be able to rename him in-game or something.

EDIT: Since they're probably taking Pichu out, I guess PT is taking his spot. Does that mean we still get another playable Pokemon? I'm still looking forward to Lucario as a PC, but with this new development, I'm not so sure...
