My first stuffs
« on: October 08, 2007, 12:52:31 PM »
I finished my first re-edit/re-color of a charset. It's pretty generic I guess. I also finished the first edit of a stance for a battle char set. It's edited from Rush from Bahamut Lagoon.

Anyway I'm just looking to see if anybody can find some things that need to be improved on in these, so criticism is quite welcome.

They're modeled somewhat after this guy:

I don't know Bahamut Lagoon so I don't know how much you edited, but the sprite looks prety good :D

His arms look pretty skinny though.

Yeah I noticed that too, that was one thing I was worried about... i shaved off like one or two pixels from the original's arms on account of he was originally wearing armor.

Even then the arms are kind of skinny. I'm just guessing (hoping) that that's the generic style of Bahamut Lagoon and that I'm not screwing up too bad.

This stuff was all supposed to be for a little bullshyte game that I was just messing around with, but it's becoming really taxing. Go figure.

Anyway, I've gotten further on the battler; criticism is still appreciated:

Here's the original rip that I used btw:

The battle charset looks pretty cool.

The regular charset isn't bad, but the actual body needs some shading. It looks kinda bad cuz theres a dark outline, but then theres no shading in the body, or at least no noticable shading. This makes the graphic look cartoony. Another thing is that most of the body (the body and cape at least) have a border, while the helmet doesn't really have one. You should pick a border style and use it throughout your whole sprite. If you want to use dark borders, use it on the helmet too. If you don't want to use borders, shade better and take the borders off of the body. All in all the rest of it looks good, but I'd make the contrast in the shading in the armor a bit more noticable, like make the dark greys a bit darker around the borders.

Hell Yeah! Just recovered all my old rm2k/3 games from my 10 year old, broken laptop hard drive that had been formatted and had a new OS installed on it. Oh, and I did all of this from my phone. WIN

alright, thanks guys. I just now noticed the inconsistencies in the border styles of the head and the body so I'll have to see what I can do about that.

Also it appears I have alot to learn in the means of shading. MooseTroop said something about that when I first started trying to do these edits.

Is this spriting stuff this hard for everybody starting out?
