So I got some chickens.

Before I start spending the time to type something that people might get offended reading, I want to remind you all that I'm from Virginia, born and raised, mainly out in the country/backwoods, except for when I visited my dad in this ghetto *** town he decided to move into for some reason that I don't understand.
Anyway, my point is, if you have a problem with any of this, you just grew up in the wrong place, and probably like seeing little boys naked.


So! I just got some new chickens. Roosters actually, since they grow a lot faster/larger. A lot of people have actually come up to me saying, 'aren't hens the ones that taste better?'.... No. They're just chickens. Chow on that ****. Think KFC kills (and feeds you), all of their hens and just keep the roosters for... well, I don't even know what you'd do with that many spare chickens. But you get my point, the chicken you eat isn't only female chickens. Just like how a lot of the beef you eat isn't just bulls. Milk cows only give milk for so long before their bodies become incapable of it. That's when they're slaughtered and eaten.

Got a younger brown one, and this bigger white one that my buddy matt (seen here) bought me as a surprise after I bought my first one.


Anyway, gonna fatten these babies up with some high-protein feed (thank you KWIK-grow MAX), and have myself a BBQ



edit: btw-  in all seriousness, if anybody has a problem with home-slaughtering, just remember that every meat you've ever eaten is still meat, and it was still an animal that was killed to be eaten.
If anything, home slaughtering provides the animal with a MUCH better environment, life, treatment, and most of all death, then what they would get in a regular processing facility. So man up.

You should attempt to race the chickens before killing them though. I dunno if that would be practical but it'd be cool.

Chickens ARE awesome. I just need to exemplify this fact. I don't even know if that's the right word to use. I bet it isn't.

As for home slaughtering, I certainly wouldn't want to do it myself. KFC do suuuuch a better job. And they have 11 secret herbs AND spices that I simply can't get right.

I don't dig birds because they're speontaneuos and unpredictable...that kinda makes me unconfortable. But y'know, I respect every single animal in the world, so I like em like any other.

I don't like the vegan hipocrisy, but I wouldn't kill the birds myself. I'd eat if you invite me, though.

I got a cousin, he's like 9. And he usually helps his father to "put them to rest". And he acts all like it's so obvious if you ask him about it.
So easy enough, you can't have too many roosters, they'll attack each other. You gotta get rid of them.
When hens no longer produce eggs, they will only grow old and die, so you might as well do some good about it.

And yeah, hens/chickens are kinda like fishes. They don't think much.
While dogs and the like can learn to earn their food, birds have a hard time, parrots are smarter though but not hens. They wouldn't get it if you asked them to do a sommersault.

I do agree that raising your own food and being self-sufficient is a very good thing. I personally don't think I'd be able to kill my pets though. Even if it was for a good cause and they'd had a happy life.

I don't eat chicken cuz (or meat at all except fish) because I don't really like it, no matter how it's cooked. I don't think I could eat an animal I'd taken car eof, though. It's too sad. There's a rabbit farm down the street from my work, and their sign says "Rabbits for Sale: For Pets or Meat". . . that I can't quite stomach. But hey, all the more power to you, man, whatever floats her boat.
