Sorrowbringer from Twilight
« on: January 20, 2009, 06:03:31 PM »
HOWDY! This is a game with ABS and custom menu system (Well it's going to have CMS)

Recently, the people of Esthera have heard from a murderer called Sorrowbringer.
This man is masked and he wears a cloak... Nobody knows who he is. The Sorrowbringer said he will strike at Esthera Theatre next time.
Unfortunately, man called 'Lynx' who is an actor, doesn't know from this..

Few years ago, 17 years old boy's parents were murdered when he was just 1 years old. Tobias didn't never miss his parents but he would have got a better life if he had. That murderer.. He was a man called Sorrowbringer. Sorrowbringer's past was unhappy, he was a 'school clown'. Everybody hated him and he wanted to kill everybody in Esthera..
Tobias decides to kill Sorrowbringer with his friends, Ellis and Kian. With their mythril swords, they entered to the castle of Sorrow. Unfortunately Sorrowbringer kills Kian and Ellis. Tobias manages to kill Sorrowbringer by praying.
Sorrowbringer's spells are reflected and so he killed himself...
Tobias is still full of unhappiness since he lost his friends..
Now, it's rumored that Tobias killed himself after he returned from the castle.

TWO YEARS LATER

At night, while Lynx is swinging his sword, the people are watching the play and they want to find out, what happens to the antagonist.
After the play, Lynx is full of stress and walks unhappily to his house.... until something black falls to the ground. It's the Sorrowbringer. Luckily, Lynx has his sword, Ragnarok with him but he couldn't beat him. His friend, Edward saves him but the Sorrowbringer flees.
Lynx decides to find out, who is this man. Lothamn has been knowing Sorrowbringer's identity for few days and tells who he is.
The man is...... Lynx's brother, Dimitri.
Lynx doesn't want to kill Dimitri but Lothamn tells that Dimitri's mask is controlling him so Lynx must destroy the mask..
But everytime when you chase a Sorrowbringer, one of your friend will betray you. No doubt.

Characters:
Loki 'Lynx' Eihlemn
Age: 26
Weapon: Ragnarok
Armor: Thadeus' Armor
Spirit: Lynx
Bio: Lynx is a sore loser, he hates his life and job. He is
going to kill the Sorrowbringer but not his brother. The question is,
how Lynx can kill the Sorrowbringer since Sorrowbringer is his brother and who will betray Lynx?

Edward Jalen
Age: 27
Weapon: Emerald Blade
Armor: Coat of Wisdom
Spirit: Owl
Bio: Lynx's best friend. He's smart but kinda sarcastic.
At charming ladies, Edward mostly loses since women think Lynx is handsome.
Edward is powerful but he's not so intelligent in battle.

Dimitri Eihlemn
Age: 26
Weapon: Murasame
Armor: Black Jacket
Spirit: Eagle
Bio: Lynx's brother. Dimitri's silent and his hairstyle is always ruined.
He's the 2nd Sorrowbringer so Lynx must destroy his mask..

Tobias Orlien
Age: 19
Weapon: Mythril Sword/Masamune
Armor: Outlaw's Jacket
Spirit: Lion
Bio: A youth who killed Sorrowbringer two years ago. But nobody has seen him. When Tobias was 18 years old, he decided to find the Grail of Life to revive his friends.

Mesthre Ebony
Age: 41
Weapon: Shotgun
Armor: Not made yet
Spirit: None.
Bio: A former Shadow Wings black op. Mesthre is now the laird of Hyuran Plains.
But when Lynx is trying to find Grail of Life, Mesthre seems to be only one who knows
its location. He isn't very useful in battle expect if you face any strong enemies, you
should take him since he has a ranged weapon.

Peregrin Jerio
Age: 28 (32 if he wasn't freezed)
Weapon: Edge of Song
Armor: Cloak of Legends
Spirit: Tiger
Bio: Peregrin Jerio is a strong warlock who was sealed 4 years to a
crystal. When Lynx finds him, he must find the Grail of Life since nothing
else can't cure him.

Features-
-ABS
-Custom Menu System
-You can't unequip weapon or armor, but every armor and weapon has
10 levels and you can raise the level with WP (Weapon Point) which you can get from enemies.
-Portraits (AULOS! I GOTTA GET AULOS!!)

Progress:
ABS: 90%
CMS: 0% (Haven't started yet)
Story: 20%
Items: 50%
Characters: 80%

Weapon Skills.
Like I said, you can't unequip your weapon or armor.
There are Weapon Skills which can be used in ABS battle but you must equip Weapon Skills.
For example, Ragnarok Lv.1 can hold two Weapon Skills and you can put some Weapon Skills there like for ex. Double Slash and Ice Smash.
So when you have equipped weapon skills Double Slash and Ice Smash for Ragnarok Lv.1, you can use them in battle.
So the bigger is your level, the more you can equip Weapon skills and your weapon is stronger. (And the armor is more defensive)
Uh, and you can equip weapon skills for armor, too.
That's why you can't unequip them.

ABS:
When you attack, you need to have at least 3 Stamina Points. Stamina Points are received after 2.5 seconds. You can't change the player in the battle and you have to set the skills in menu. Of course, the other party members will help you.
Here's a little screenshot.

And the ABS Map (I should make better HUD.)
I'D LIKE COMMENTS, PLEASE!

This actually looks interesting, but the summary you gave was confusing. He was a kid that got made fun of, grew up to be a murderer, died, then returned two years later? I don't quite understand. But the screenshots look nice. You used good English for the NPCs, which is great because a lot of games have terrible English. And that theatre chipset stands out, but it looks heavily influenced by the opera house in FFVI. I guess that isn't a bad thing. The only other confusing thing is, what era is this set in? There's machinery, a theatre, and a castle and swords, those three things don't seem to come together logically. Overall though, looks good so far.

Sorrowbringer had a mask which possessed people so the mask somehow started to move and it hit Dimitri's face
so Dimitri is now da sorrowbringer.
The year is 1561 and the steam power
and echotech is still new to many people..
Like airships.
Ummm, that place.... It's not a theatre, itza pub.
And therez going on a fight against con man, wooden echotechian and pig man.
And about the language... Hmmm... Most interesting thing is that I am a finn.

Hmm, looks really interesting. Making a ABS and CMS must be taking a lot of work. But could you explain more of this ABS you're making?

Thanks, finn buddy.
Eh, making the menu and ABS ain't a problem.
Little things from ABS:
Skills-
You must set a hotkey for skill in the menu. For example, when you select 'Double Slash', you must select a number from 1 to 10.
In battle, when you want to use a skill, you must press that key you selected for the skill.
Overdrive:
When you have 10% HP left, you can use the Overdrive. Each character has a Stamina Banner Animal.
For example, Lynx's Stamina Banner is a lynx. When you use Overdrive with Lynx, a Lynx spirit will attack
to enemies. However, using Overdrive is a risk because your stamina will be -15 after the Overdrive and it takes
2.5 seconds to recover stamina and you could be killed after Overdrive!

Hmm, your ABS system sounds good, and now I'm even more interested in this. And for the theatre, I was referring to the last screenshot, not the pub. Looks good so far, I wish I understood how to set up an ABS.

Sounds very interesting and fantastical, but I have a big problem with this feature:

If you can't change your weapon and armour, it invalidates the fact that you can level them up. I mean, it makes it makes no difference to regular levelling up. You might as well include the advances in the regular levelling if you can't change the course anyway.

But what I mean is, claiming that the weapon is levelling up is completely arbitrary. Unless you can actually change the weapon, it works exactly the same as the regular system of levelling up and gaining skills. It just seems unnecessary.

The story is a bit odd but I see potential. I like the battle system, though I agree with Red, swords and breastplates with levels seems a bit pointless. Now, if you could upgrade weapons and armor, that might make more sense. Kinda like in Secret of Mana?

Otherwise, good luck on your game.

Well, yeah. I kinda meant upgrading weapons like adding a element for it or doing something for it.
Is my english skill getting rusty? Dammit..
I'll add later pictures for playable characters since it's
still morning in Finland..
