There's no "make too much sense, be too nice, and prove they're a decent person".

Well, that's not quite what I meant. You make it sound as if I don't think the word is offensive. I do. I hate the word, but I feel that it's something to just ignore unless it's becoming an attack. Don't cry over spilled milk, etc. I also threw into the ring the closer to home version of the issue, with slurs that directly affect me. It's not that I refuse to accept the idea of an offensive word, but rather that I refuse to let it bother me enough to actually be offended. That's the best thing to do, because how can you receive grief over something that you don't let grief you?

Dragoon's girlfriend is the one who ostensibly claimed to be offended by it, and I'm defending her right, and the right of any other person who finds the word offensive, to browse the forum without feeling singled out or ostracized.

And I find it offensive because it's a racial slur meant to speak ill of black people. And while it may be freedom of speech, it's also been said that freedom of speech is not applicable when speech is found offensive to someone for one reason or another.

And if you can make the tiny sacrifice not to use it and therefore avoid making Dragoon's girlfriend feel unwelcome, you should do the decent thing.

Because I might have changed my opinion if this thread were offending a black person who is not a regular but who isn't tmerill.
