Dissidia Final Fantasy
« on: July 19, 2009, 04:51:45 PM »
For those of you who don't know, it's a Super Smash Bros. -style action/fighting game featuring a hero and villain from each of the first ten Final Fantasy games (plus a couple of extras).

The cast is: (hope the spoiler tag works)
Warrior of Light (Fighter) - Garland
Firion - Emperor Mateus
Onion Knight - Cloud of Darkness
Cecil - Golbez
Bartz - Exdeath
Terra - Kefka
Cloud - Sephiroth
Squall - Ultimecia
Zidane - Kuja
Tidus - Jecht
Shantotto (FFXI)
Judge Gabranth (FFXII)
It's already been out in Japan for a year or so, but it's due for NA release on August 24th. It's for PSP.

So is anyone else excited for it? I bought a PSP specifically for that game (but there's a few others that I wanted to get anyways). In case you can't tell, I'm a huge FF fan, and the videos look pretty awesome. Plus, I heard somewhere that the NA version will have some extra content (more storyline scenes, more NPCs from other FF games, and maybe even a few new playable characters), so that's going to be awesome.

Yeah, I'm excited. Plus, if it sells well, they'll make Dissidia 2, which means Kain! And Yuna! And maybe Sora.

Sounds fun. Can't wait to beat the **** out of Cloud and Squall. If it will even see daylight in Europe.

I've heard of it, but I'm kinda "meh" to the premise of it. It mainly sounds like they're just trying to buy out their fans with a humungoriffic FF mash up that has a damn weird plot. Plus I don't really like PSP's. If they end up releasing a DS version though, I'd definitely try it out.

Yes, those bastards ruined FF! Terra will take great pleasure in castrating them. :P

Hmm, a DS version would be cool. They would probably make it more like Smash Bros though, by putting it on a 2D plane. Which would be better, actually, because Nintendo has yet to release a Smash Bros DS (Jump Superstars or whatever can go to hell).

I have kept tabs of this. Development seems to be whacky though. And as I know it's more of a versus fighting game, than it is a smasher.

I've been following this game since it was announced, and it looks great.  Too bad it's only on the PSP.

Played it.
Wasn't as great as they make it look and sound I'm afraid.

The computer enemies always get the X-thingy and rapes your health.
Also, all the mage characters spam you to death before you can say "oh **** - she's hot"
And the controlls are rather annoying at start, you keep jumping to the wrong sides and going up places you weren't supposed to go.
And the computer players fly around like moths around you draining your patience for the game.

Anyway- quite fun, cloud is overrated. It's easy to spamm stuff. Like any FF.

Also, Sora won't be in this game. He's in a fanservice -spin off already.

No, Sora isn't in Dissidia. However, Nomura (the guy in charge of Dissidia) said that, if there were to be a sequel, they would definitely add Kain and maybe add some Kingdom Hearts characters (likely Sora and Riku). Also, they wanted to add Seymour as the villain for FFX, but didn't because they would've had to put in Yuna as the hero representing FFX (which would've been an improvement in my opinion). So that very likely means either Seymour or Yuna in Dissidia 2 - likely Yuna as she's far more interesting.

Also... Gilgamesh, Seifer, Vivi, Balthier. Those are my picks for the inevitable.

Ew, DS. I hate the DS. **** is overrated.

Also, I hope Seymour. I liked Seymour. Way better than Sephiroth.

Remember that Yuna might be the FFX-2 yuna. Fan service is a big thing these days.
Also, if they take Yuna they pretty much have to take Garnet, Tifa, Riona ect. Becasue they too are the female protagonists.

I've had a PSP for a while. It's kinda just been lying around though. I don't have money for new games, and my old games are getting boring. I used it for portable internet purposes for a while, until the "not enough memory" crap started to get so frequent it wasn't even worth it.

That thing has so much wasted potential. I'm pretty much waiting until I can get a hold of the things I need to do a "pandora's battery" on it, so I can get custom homebrew applications, like emulators and stuff. Until then, it's an expensive paperweight. :\

Needless to say, I probably won't be getting this game. Looks cool for Final Fantasy fans though, I presume.

But.... but Balthier is the Leading Man! He's leagues better than Vaan! Basch is close though.

Rinoa wouldn't be bad (though Seifer or Edea would be better). Tifa would be a safe pick, considering that, besides Cloud and Sephiroth, she's one of the most popular FF7 characters (alongside Zack and Vincent). Garnet also wouldn't be bad, considering they don't have much in the way of White Mages in Dissidia. Even Ashe wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

But as for pre-7? The only worthy female characters are Terra (already in) and Faris (the only character besides Gilgamesh that didn't suck in FF5). Unless you want a generic female White Mage.

Also, I'm forgetting spinoffs. Every Tactics character save for Thunder God Cid sucks, Crystal Chronicles sucks, Chocobo games suck, those board game things suck, and pretty much every other FF not in the main series sucks. However, Crono would be awesome. As would a Dragon Quest character (a slime, lol).

I wanna do some work with Zidane, my friend already has it (of course it in Japanese) and fun as hell. I didn't see any Brawl style combat, it it more like DBZ combat (flying through the air, moving fast, explosions, ect.)

I got this game, jap version obviously. It is pretty fun, and kept me entertained for awhile. I mainly just played as Kefka/Cefca as he was pretty crazy, and I love his theme and laugh.

I kind of wanted Gilgamesh in it, but all I got was a Butz ghost named Gilgamesh, with all of the Genji equipment.

The only new content I have heard of is some new scenes, and some new attacks for Squall and Cloud. Cloud and Sephiroth were pretty weak, which made it even better to beat them up.

Sounds like you were not that good. It is easy to counter that if you know what you are doing. By "fly around like moths", did you mean that weird air dash? Because you can do that to, to go after them, but I do not remember if you needed a skill to do so.

And Felix, Zidane does do work. I spammed his attacks to beat the stupid final boss, who you had to beat three times in a row. I found that annoying.

Only in the remakes. The White mage was originaly a male character.

The hero from the newer DQ wouldn't make for a bad character. Also there's Ortega.
