Scribblenauts
« on: September 12, 2009, 07:57:17 PM »
This has got to be the best idea for a DS game ever. I'm playing it right now for half an hour and haven't even started the game, just messing around the title screen.

Basically, you type in a word, any word, and it spawns.

As an example, I typed in "Serial Killer", and a guy with a knife appeared... and proceeded to beat the hell out of me. In a cunning moment I typed in "Hero" and a superman wannabe appeared to protect me.

After testing, I found out I could just have typed "gun" and have my character take him out by himself.

At any rate, this game's spawn dictionary is HUGE. I've been following it since the development, and they actually hired knw-hard-words-smartasses to test it.

You can actually spawn horders of good guys that follow you around and help you. "Hero" is one. "Policeman", etc. And then there's the less obvious ones. "Sniper" works, as well as "Knight" or "Mage".

I tried "Angel". It does spawn, but he's a wuss who doesn't protect you. "Daemon" created a daemon, who proceeded to beat the hell out of the angel.

In fact, lets test it right now. Everyone, give me words to try.

Before anyone asks, "dick" spawns a detective and "cock" spawns a rooster. "Penis" is censored.

Death.
Will it spawn the Grim Reaper or will you simply die?

Also, do names work, or is it words only?

Names tend not to work, I found out.

Okay, here's what it cannot  be (according to the game)

- A place
- A propper name
- Suggestive material
- Race or culture
- Vulgarity or copyrighted

Also, Death does indeed spawn the Ripper.

 I stole his scythe.

Poison. - A bottle of poison
Gas. - Spawns something. I can't figure out what it is.
Mask. - A opera mask
God. - God shows up. He acts as a helper and kills bad guys. awesome.
Nintendo. - Doesn't spawn. i think it falls under copywright or names.
Scribblenauts. - Spawns a guy which looks dangerously close to a Bomberman.

Jeep - No deal. Weird, it seems like a common word.
Tank - Works and you can even drive it around.
Zombie - Spawns a blue zombie who lurches at people ttacks them. Funny detail is that the people he attacks become zombies on hit!
Ninja - Spawns a ninja with a shuriken. He doesn't attack you nor acts as a bodyguard, I think he falls into the Neutral allignment.
Dancer - Spawns a ballerina black girl.
Laser - Spawns a ray gun.
Nerd - Spawns a scientist.
Emu - Spawns an emu, the bird. If you meant Emo, it spawns a guy in leater jacket and sunglasses and pointy wristbands.

Kleptomaniac, you mean?
In a game like this, I'm pretty sure spelling is necessary.

Anyways:
Tree.
Mountain.
Nitroglycerin.
Toilet.
Abraham Lincoln.
Bottlecap.
Excalibur.
King Arthur.
Gandhi.
Cow.
Alien.
Photographer.
Steampunk (doubt it'll work, but if it does...awesome)
Air.
Godzilla.
Quill.
Platypus.
Supermodel.
Evil (might not work, too general)
Dwarf.

And now, I'm officially out.

Heh. Try all the TF2 classes:

Scout
Pyro (Pyromaniac if just Pyro doesn't work?)
Soldier
Heavy weapons guy (Or just heavy, since Heavy weapons guy is unlikely to work...)
Demoman (Demolitionist or Demolition man if Demoman doesn't work)
Engineer
Sniper
Spy
Medic (Doctor?)

Vampire. - Spawns a vampire. He atacks people and transforms them in underlings.
Necromancer. - Spawns an renemy dressed as a blackmage. He doesn't seems to do much in terms of bringing dead people back to life.
Drug dealer. - Spawns a dealer, like the cassino kind. He actually acts as a goodguy.
Dragon. - The game even asks if you meant the Dragon (creature) or the dragon (weapon) the creatre does all what'd you expect, flys, attacks, etc. The wrapon is a shotgun.
Geek. - Same as nerd.
Art. - Spawns a painting
Artist. - Spawns a woman with a beret and holding painting materials. Acts as a helper.
Satan. - Spawns a daemon.
Devil, if that doesn't work. - Same as above.
Mech. - Spawns a mech. I was actually surprised, was not for the style it was drawn it could very well be from a Megaman X game. Not only I drove it, I used it to shoot the artist.
Horripilation (I doubt it'll work, it means goose bumps). - Doesn't works, but the game asked if I meant "himation" I said yes and then it spawned a white... thing.
Chick. - "Did you mean...
 Chick (Bird)
 Chick (Human)"
Confederate. - No deal.
King. - Spawns a king.
Destroyer. - A battleship. Cannons and everything.
Battleship.- Spawns exactly the same as destroyer.
Ben. - No.
Joe. - Spawns the plainest guy there is.
Joker. - Someone dressed as the King's Fool.
Jester. - Same
Tank. - Already did it.
France (as well as any other countries you can think of). - Country names are a no-go.

Cleptomaniac and diamond - A black-clad thief spawned, then he hit me and snatched the diamond. I must say I'm impressed with the developers of this game.
Attach Steak to a baby and spawn a lion - Attaching is not and option, so I spawned glue and glued it to teh baby. The lion ate both at the same time.
Baby and Dingo - ...it actually showed the "Food" thoughts into the dingo's head. When I tried the lion/baby (no steak) the lion just killed the baby.
Time Machine, T Rex, Zombies - Time Machine made a time machine. I'm in free play mode, aye? So, I used "interact" With timemachine. The main character was sent to a secret(?) level in the medieval times. T-Rex spwned a T-Rex a medieval knight slayed it, and the T-Rex left behind a meat. Which the queen ate. Zombies was done.
Vegetarian and burger. - Spawned a hippie. He ate the burger. >_>

Tree. - Works.
Mountain. - Works.
Nitroglycerin. - Spawned something looking like a missile. Interacting with it made it explode and kill the medieval soldier.
Toilet. - Works. You can't use it, but you can jump on it to reach places.
Abraham Lincoln. - Propper name. *tests anyway* Actually works!
Bottlecap. - No deal.
Excalibur. - Spawns a sword.
King Arthur. - No deal.
Gandhi. - No deal.
Cow. - Works.
Alien. - Works. It doesn't do much besides walking around like an NPC.
Photographer. - Spawns someone who looks freelance.
Steampunk (doubt it'll work, but if it does...awesome) - No deal. :( Steam Punk (as in two words) spawn a punk kid.
Air. Spawns a cloud of gas. it dissolves instantly.
Godzilla. - Copyrighted
Quill. - A.. feather?
Platypus. - Works.
Supermodel. - Works. It shows no cleavege at all, though.
Evil (might not work, too general) - Too general, indeed.
Dwarf. - It's Gimli!

Scout - Spawns an archer. I suppose it counts as an scout if it was sent in a scouting party...
Pyro (Pyromaniac if just Pyro doesn't work?) - Spawns a bun with Molotov Cocktail
Soldier - Spawns a generic soldier with a machinegun. Acts as helper.
Heavy weapons guy (Or just heavy, since Heavy weapons guy is unlikely to work...) - Spawns a guy. But I think everything ending in Guy will spawn a guy by default if it has no other entry.
Demoman (Demolitionist or Demolition man if Demoman doesn't work) - Spawns a man with protective gear for the whole body. I made a bomb and he RUSHED over there to set it off. Died in the explosion
Engineer - Works. Rather generic, though.
Sniper - Works. Acts as helper.
Spy - Spawns a ninja.
Medic (Doctor?) - Works.

I don't understand. What's the point of the game, other than to test what words have been programmed into the game?
