Final Fantasy XIII

So, I gotta' say... I just picked this up about two hours ago. Popped it in. It felt pretty nostalgic. The graphics are absolutely gorgeous; seamless transitions from in-game to cutscenes are a plus. Voice acting is very nice this time around. ABS is back, in a way. Where it lacks in being able to control other characters, it makes up for it in being able to use items whenever you want to (outside of gauge).

So far, the beginning is pretty slow. I'm hoping it picks up soon. Snow just ran into Hope and what's-her-name-with-the-Australian-accent chick. And Lightning keeps getting annoyed by black-guy-with-baby-chocobo.
Anyone have any thoughts on this game?

I believe Lost Odyssey had more.

I want to at least rent it, because it does look fun.
The last few FF games that I've played (VIII and XII) kind of pissed me off, so I'm a little wary.

I've heard a lot things that makes this more like a Hack and slash rather than RPG. The whole, no levels, full heal after battles, no towns or NPC's unless crucial. And so on, But I'm getting it. I got FFXII and I doubt this can be worse.
To be honest, if Enix manages to make a FF worse than FFXII then my FF days are over.

FFX disappointed me, and so did FFXI, which I think shouldn't even be named FFXI but FFOnline or whatever.

This is basically true, but I think it pointed out how f'ing boring a lot of RPG battle systems are. Sure you auto-attacked in 12 a lot, but, well, that's basically all you ever really did in any of the other games. It just eliminated the need to spam the action button to hit attack every time a character's turn came up.
