The fact that you were disappointed in FFT but not in FFTA makes me question your sanity.

I really liked FF12, and FF13 is pretty fun thus far. I've also heard good things about the battle system in FFX-2. And I enjoyed FFX.

I guess I'm just the odd guy out of everyone here. I didn't find huge faults in these games that were deal-breakers.

Neither is there anything ground breaking.  I got the US versioin, and I plan to play it on monday when I finish Dante's Inferno. Which is a stupid game.

ITT: People who don't play the game, judging it as horrible. People who have played the game saying it's good. And people claiming that Atlus is great, even though most of the time it's just publishing those games, and not actually developing them.

Atlus = Far more miss than hit. Demon Souls is the only game that comes to mind when I think of Atlus games that were actually good in a while; that being said it was DEVELOPED by From Software anyways.

My two-cents on FFXIII, battle system is awesome; story is entertaining. What more do you want from an RPG? Generic-ness? Pffft; look to Atlus for that.

It seems like you've ONLY played the games Atlus publishes. The games they develop themselves are anything but generic.

I don't know about the story I have yet to play it  (kind of outgrown Final Fantasy games) but what would I want from a rpg than most lack?
Maturity.
A romance plot that actually advances into something that isn't like most romance plots in game where the two characters annoy each other but truthfully love each other one is put in danger and the other saves him/her to prove they love each other but there is no real claim of love or even a kiss. Or we are best friends and always together we secrelty have a connection that is love I think but its never explained or addressed.
Good character development that isn't cliche. I'm a good thief or a good guy doing semi bad things but not really, or I'm the prideful silent type with a mysterious past  or even I'm a nice guy at heart but I do anything when truthfully I hate doing them  because they are wrong so I'll complain about them through the entire game, but over the course of the game I will become the only person that can save the World like so many rpgs.
Also don't forget (enter every other rpg cliche here).
I want the opposite of that in a rpg.
Sadly the majority of rpgs in the last 3 years and I am not kidding are all exactly or close enough to being like that which may be why I have started to dislike them.
Does FFXIII supply that? Or is a let down repeating the same formula yet again?

@ Apex I do have to say the Persona games (2-4 mostly)  do follow a slight patern of generic rpgs sometimes but are enjoyable somewhat with some originality thrown in.

But isn't FF a generic title and Square keeps rehashing character and story lines? Logical fail.

Yeah, you know. You're so right. Look at that generic game Digital Devil saga, leader of a tribe, in a tactical war with other tribes and then get turned into a demon of some sort, forced to battle out and control other tribe territories in a Hindu based environment (yup, definitely overused religion there, unlike Celtic, Greek and Norse). Let's not forget that they aren't trying to stop some overlord or anything, just trying to survive and retain their human selves. I mean, that's just so generic of an RPG.

Persona, that's generic to. People using a power based on the their personality and determination which grows and changes with them. Heck, the most generic thing I've seen is in Persona 4 when you gain the party member by defeating their shadow, and allowing them to accept that they have problems and over come them, thus making their shadow become a Persona and become their power. That's so cliche. Not to mention the fact that Death was sympathetic and understanding of human beings, giving them insight and meaning throughout the battle. If they wanted to be original, they should have put a cloak and on a skull and made him laugh evily as he kills you.

And look at Devil Summoner: being a Japanese cop in the early 20th century who can capture and have demons of all shapes and sizes to his aid, the game having an old cop movie feel, battling Rasputin. EVERY RPG does that.

Yeah, some real generic stuff Atlus gives everyone.

Yeah! They should be more original and make us collect items of magic, have weapons of outrageous designs that could never work in real life, and bring up ancient wars that are mentioned, never emphasized much on, but will be brought back in your lifetime because apparently they didn't start to bring it back until you came into the picture! Nothing sets everything in motion like a few crazy kids and Shaft/racial stereotype!

Really, I'm not judging FFXIII yet. Though I'll wait on a price drop before I really try it out or maybe borrow it from a friend. I just felt odd about the direction they are going and, with the exception of Shaft over there, the cast wasn't looking too great for me. But, again, my full judgment on that will have to wait until I play.

I've played the Japanese version. It was bad. I was very hyped for the game but it was a huge let down. I have now gotten the US version to see if I can understand more of the story that I did miss but that I doubt it'll bring anything new or good to the bad experience with the systems and linear progression in this game.

... I can't say I've ever really hated a game I've ever played.

Really.  I have extrememly low standards because I hardly ever get to play a videogame anymore.

Example:  Loved FFXII.  And X.  And I/II.  Too bad I've never come close to beating any of them... er, I came close to beating X.  Thats pretty much it.  Oh, and II.  I just am not that great at playing games, but enjoy it.

The biggest thing that bothers me in Final Fantasy XIII is the fact that Hope looks so much like Vaan... who looked so much like Tidus... who looked so much like Zidane...

I know, stupid bump/double post. But it's my topic :P

Any tips on beating Barthandelus?
I'm using Lightning, Hope, and Vanille.
Lighting: Commando - 3, Ravager - 3, Medic - 2
Hope: Ravager - 3, Synergist - 2, Medic 3
Vanille: Ravager - 2, Medic - 2, Saboteur - 3
