Music Fun
« on: March 27, 2010, 04:17:58 AM »
I renewed some interest in an old project recently. And while looking at a bar of 8/8 in band today, I got some inspiration. So, here's a battle theme I wrote out today. This is only the piano version, so it's a little limited. There will be more once I complete the instrumental version.

Symerian Wilds (Piano Version)
Symerian Wilds (Instrumental)

I like the cluster chords you have in there.  Triplet patterns always seem to give a sense of rush in music, and the 3+3+2 has it.  I enjoyed it, and it was nice to see a score.  Noteflight is a really convient site.  I did like your scoring, and I'm interested to see what it will look like orchestrated.

Thanks, AFL :)
While triplet feel does have it, the 2 at the end gives that extra rush because of its feeling of incompleteness.
While working on the orchestrated version of that piece, I've also started two more that I'll release soon )after the complete version of Symerian Wilds).

Okay, AFL couldn't have been the only person to have listened to this. It has 70 views. Anybody have a comment? Any at all. Seriously.

I like it quite a bit, even if it does remind me of Kingdom Hearts a bit.

EDIT: Not much to say about the composition though.

I wish I could hear an instrumentation with better instruments, because the strings that they use are atrocious.
Good comp, even if the program sucked some of the joy out for me.

I like the instrumentation, but I'm not sure the purpose of the 2nd trumpet staff going higher the 1st Trumpet staff.  I'd watch for stuff like that.  The sounds might not be the best, but it works.  Could be longer I think.  Consider putting some of that flute stuff up an octave as well. ;)

As a battle theme, it's pretty interesting. Like, it's not the sort of thing I'd stick on mp3 player and run to, but it definitely has a distinctive atmosphere to it.
At the same time, I agree that it does have the same sort of feel to it as many recent Squeenix RPG battle themes, which while not a bad thing, isn't really revolutionary either.
Then again, the only legitimate music knowledge I have is from this guy I dated who is a crappy composer, so, uh, apologies for lack of fancy music-y words.

Nice job, Fortet! Sounds like an intense battle scene. Though, I really don't have much more to say about it than that.
