Moar Hacking
« on: April 11, 2010, 04:23:07 PM »
The theme files for the website were hacked in a similar way as the files a few weeks ago. They've been replaced and the whole forum has been scanned and is clean. In addition, our version of SMF should no longer be immune to the attack that caused this according to other places that had similar incidents.

The method was with a custom avatar, so for now, we're disabling custom uploaded avatars. You'll have to host your avatar offsite somewhere. Sorry. In addition, all old attachments and custom avatars will be deleted.

Remember, ImageShack or Photobucket are good places to store your avatar. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Well.  Now we have to wonder if it was an accident or intentional.

A chance you're always there when needed, Osmose.

But... who would want to destroy Charas? :(

Hackers? Oh great. We get rid of bots and trolls only to have hackers now? Ugh... Will the evils of the world ever cease? As for who'd want to to get rid us there are a few we've baned who might want revenge and have the capability. Like Dedly. Didn't he even brag he was a hacker once?

Oh, I have something I'd like to add. Now, I'm not sure how accurate this report is, since I wasn't able to reproduce it, but I'll tell you anyways. Yesterday, I came here, and I received a malicious content warning. Like I said, it only happened the one time, so there's a chance it was a false positive. However, it couldn't hurt to be a bit wary here, for the time being.

I've also received a warning from my Anti-Virus yesterday, though I can't remember if it was when I went on Charas. However, considering Charas is pretty much always the first page I open, chances are it was when on Charas. It also only happened once.

Now, whether it is a mere coincidence that we both received a warning or not remain to be known.

I was redirected towards a small "OMG THE VIRUS HAS GOTTEN YOU DO SOMETHING NAO" thing when I went to Charas yesterday.
Wasn't my antivirus, because my anti-virus isn't run by malware.

Yeah, we got rid of that one, it happened again, we're constantly checking and hope to have the root cause identified soon.
