Horror games are only horrory the first time you play them. Resident evil for example, you have no idea what you're facing or where there might be zombies hidden. And then we have the remake of the first game which added those bloody crimson heads.
Second time you play it - you know when that local citizen is going to bust out off the stack with cardboardboxes and what you need to save your ammo for. So the horror is rather removed and only survival remains.
Well if you don't count Resident evil 4 and those darn Regenerators. Their very presence still bothers me.

I forgot those blasted Roaches thingies in Resident evil 5. Hate enemies that stand barrage of bullets and knows 1hit ko moves.

Also, before getting a hang of things - the Horrors from eternal darkness.
Hell the Butcher from the first diablo game.

I couldn't stand the croc section early on in RE5.
Only part so far that I found to actually be scary.
Otherwise it's just shooting ****.

The reason for butcher fright might be because I was a bit too young when I played Diablo. Hell I still remember skipping the intro as fast as possible.
Thing is, there's no running in diablo and the butcher was fast. He was stuck in this room, I enter he makes some noise while standing around a bloody floor with dead guys. Nothing I did seemed to kill him either since I didn't really knew what I were doing.
Scariest things are the things that won't die. Well if you don't count tons of small leeches thingies trying to eat you.
