OM NOM NOM NOM (The Food Thread)
« on: December 01, 2010, 10:32:43 PM »
Post excellent dishes that you just had, for lunch breakfast munchies, whatever.

I just had the most excellent French Dip that I've had in a while.
I took a white bolillo, cut it in half, put a slice of muenster over the beef, and the other half of the roll, and then lightly toasted it.
That + dipping into jus = omfgasm
And to top it all off, a bottle of Henry Weinhard's root beer, a thing which I have a feeling most of you have never heard of.

A 22lb butterball turkey. My work gave one out to every employee at the place, so there was a truckload of 52 or so 22 lb turkeys. I had to take it home in my suitcase to visit the folks. Security laughed when they found it. One of the guys said it made his night. Took it home, cooked it, mm mmm good.

Frying some chicken and then adding barbeque sauce when it's half done in the pan. Then it kinda glazes itself with it. Shove some cheese on top and you have a mighty meal.

I've always loved chopped up sausage, tinned tomato based sauce and rice. That's really simple and amazing somehow.

Pasta, pasta-sauce(mashed tomatoes, mushroom, olives, oregano), bacon, ham, white(baked) beans and more mushroom.

Boil pasta for itself , then fry up the bacon and ham and pour all the remaining ingredients into the frying pan.
When the pasta is ready - simply remove the water and pour all the contents of the frying pan into the ...thing.
Ready to serve.

English Beer Battered Fish and Chips with Mushy Peas

Beer Batter - Bass Beer, Flour(All Purpose), baking soda, salt and white pepper, malt vinegar and coriander.
Use White flesh fish fillets such as Cod, Haddock etc.
Potatoes(Russet) or pre-cut french fries are fine.
Mushy Peas - Marrowfat Peas(Dried Green peas), sugar and salt. (Soak peas overnight in cold water)

Pre Heat oven to 350 C
Mix your batter together by first mixing all of your dry ingredients and then slowly adding your wet ingredients until desired viscosity is reached.  Heat your oil(Peanut oil is best) until hot(160 C) and fry your chips/fries, once cooked(Golden Brown), set in oven and turn oven off, now set your heat for your oil to 190 C and fry you battered fish which you dip and coat in the batter until golden brown(Salt when done) and serve hot with fries.  If homemade fires are used fry additionally until cooked through.  Once items are fully cooked place on paper towls to help degrease.

For the peas simmer with some sugar and salt, drain and mash with a fork.

Serve with malt vinegar, salt and mushy peas.
