DMC Devil may cry
« on: December 09, 2012, 08:07:42 AM »
So I just played the demo for this (downloaded it for the ps3), and it was kinda different.
Different how? Different from the other games in the series. Well I'll be honest, the concept stays the same, you run around and you slash things using neat combos and mix betweeen fighting styles and such. If that's all you care about - awesome.
Dante looks like some sort of misunderstood youth these days, not that his hair colour matters. It's all in his personality as well, he just tend to be a bit more obnoxious than charming.
But my biggest issue is the foul mouth of the characters. Do the game creators think it's more grown-up and cool to use censored words all the time? Played that boss battle and realized that 12 year old me couldn't play this game with my parents at home or I'd be in big trouble. Lame, I know.

The setting kinda reminds me of the last DMC(4), you're in some sort of european-looking city with clownlike enemies(with chainsaws), And I think the town is actually floating in the air. But instead of having a Nero, a Dante copycat, they decided to start fresh but reuse the story and all. Dante is a rebellious youth who likes to kill demons, it turns out that he got a twin brother called Virgil (who looks more like a momma's boy than the snob he used to be) who leads le resistancé and recruits Dante to fight the demons with him. It also turns out that they have all these neat powers because their father was a demon and their mother an angel.

So yeah... Bottomline, appears to be a good hack and slash but the game have lost a bit of it's charm for me.

The thing with the city, I read a while back, is that it frequently shifts back and forth between reality and the demon world. Hence floaty.
And that they were trying to make the demon world look obnoxiously bright, so it'd be inhuman or something.

I'm...probably going to at least rent it, but I doubt I'm going to like it.
I ****ing love the first few, and the reboot sounds like a giant step backwards in regards to storytelling.

Yeah they call the demon world "Limbo", it's kinda like the city with demonic features. And to be honest, you spend all your time there. Cutscenes and such can be done in the real world but it seems like the moment you get to control Dante you end up in Limbo so that you can actually find something to kill.

This Limbo sounds remarkbly similar to Bayonetta's Purgatorio.

No, but if I played this back on the days, when I were indeed 12, I'd be in big trouble for playing a game with such contents.

On a certain board I frequent on, nobody so far is taking this game seriously anymore, and many hope it will bomb. It just isn't Devil May Cry anymore. That douchebag ain't Dante. Not just because of his emo hair, but mainly because of his "'tude".

Yeah it's kinda hard to see it as devilmaycry only because they kept the names and the backstory of the characters. Dante used to be a charming douche, not this guy. It's not about the appearance, it's in the way he act. It's kinda like replacing Link with a guy with a dark past and insecurity who tries hard to save the princess only to go all emo and crying after every boss fight.
