English Horn performance
« on: June 06, 2013, 06:40:05 AM »
So, I thought I'd share a little bit of what I'm doing at college other than writing music and learning how to be a teacher.  I'm currently going to be a senior music education major with a concentration in Oboe in the fall in case you didn't know that, and I did a joint junior recital this past April.  Here's a piece I played on English Horn (which is neither English or a brass horn, its kind of a larger oboe)

Apr6 2013 IUP English Horn recital Piece en forme de Habanera

The piece is Piece en forme de Habanera by Maurice Ravel.  When I get recordings from the rest of the recital I'll try to post them... if they didn't suck. haha

Also, I didn't know you could mix beige pants with a suit.

Oh wow I remember when you used to post about marching band!

Gorgeous tone, and really nice use of line. I like the way that you have really steady dynamics all the way through, even when things become more difficult.

Honestly, oboe is one of my favourite instruments when played well, so this was a real pleasure to listen to.

You look like my grandmother.
edit: when she was young. You don't look like you're 80.

Last night I had a dream that Zerlina and I were pirates. It was... beautiful.

I get that quite a lot.  Wait what?

Thanks, Zerlina!  Oboe is definitely one of those instruments where you either sound good or completely awful haha.  This piece was especially fun to put together.  I only worked on it a couple weeks but it clicked pretty quickly.  Can't say the same for the other two pieces I played though, took four months for both of them.  And I still do marching band, and teach marching band but I just don't really post it.

Your tone, phrasing, and technical facility are very impressive! As is your composure - any time I'm just on recital hour I about die from fear of judgement. God knows what I'm gonna do when it comes time for my senior recital.
Anyways, great video! Give us more! It might get me inspired to post something (but probably not, no).

To be fair, I actually have a prescription for performance anxiety, so that helps. Haha  This was the very last piece on the program and my favorite so I was a lot more relaxed for this piece as well.
