If we all want to save money we could always stuff a hotel room (get an extra cot, rotate who gets the beds, and everoyne brings a sleeping bag). Not sure how you all feel about this, but I've done it for conventions and it just feels like indoor camping.

I'd like to do this if I can get the time off work. I've never embarked on such a long journey alone, though.

Yeah, I imagine NYC hotels are pretty expensive. Traveling anywhere in the summer isn't cheap. I was planning on backpacking europe in the summer, but that changed when I realized there was a 600 dollar difference out of the cheapest airports between February and June.

I'd be for stuffing a hotel room, I had to do it all the time for music festivals in high school, and some trips in college so far.  (Better than a gym floor at least)

Haha we could rent one of the suites with a jacuzzi and everything and call it the Charas Suite. I think it would defeat the purpose of trying to save money, but it'd be hella fun.

All jokes aside, I'd also be okay with sharing a hotel room if I end up going. I just quick looked at prices, and it looks like the rooms will range from $160 to $300 a night. That'll probably change over time, but it's probably a good guestimate for now.

Edit: Also, out of curiosity, I just looked at ticket prices for around that time, and they're half the price I pay for tickets to Wisconsin to visit family (which is half the distance as NY). I was expecting them to be a lot more, so I'm almost certainly in if enough people want to go.

If it ends up being that 6 or so of us can go, and we split a $200/night hotel room it's really not that bad. If people are coming from not too far away, maybe we can arrange carpools, too.

Also, Fred, if you fly to Toronto it might be cheaper, and we can head down to NY together.

Having thought about this a little more, I really would like to go. I can feel the remnants of charas getting a little cliquey and I'm gonna feel really left out if I miss something like this >_>

Charas suite sounds awesome. We can hang up a full size version of one of the charas banners.

I would need a pretty good idea of specific days though because I'm supposed to have booked a lot of my holiday off by the end of this month, so work know what's going on.

All you young in's don't even remember me.  Also I am very sporadic with my postings and contributions towards the page.

But coincidentally I may be driving to NYC from south-east Michigan, (10 hour drive), with a buddy of mine.  Nobody goddamn road trips anymore.  I'll keep you posted closer to when you have a more specific set of dates.

Ok, well I think it'll hinge on when AFL's going to be there since he's going for a conference, as well as any days anyone is NOT available. My schedule is totally open that far ahead, so if everyone who wants to come could just post either that they have open availability, or what outside dates they can do that's probably easiest.

I'm not sure how far away/long the drive is from south eastern pa.  Probably between 6 and 8 hours, i just dont feel like google mapping it atm.

I'm also available any set of days around that time, I just need to make sure I save enough vacation days.

So I have some good news, I was talking to my manager, who lives in NYC, about where a good place to stay would be. He's gonna send me a list of hotels that are away from Time Square, but a very short subway ride away from Time Square, that will be a lot cheaper. He was saying that the hotels he was thinking of were $130 - $150 a night, but you can get discounts if you book the hotels over an entire weekend.

Anyone passing through western mass that would want to coordinate? Lucas, I could make a quick pit stop in Brazil and grab you if you're interested!

I mentioned it on the first page of the topic, but my conference starts the 5th.  So I'd be able to go during Lucas's last few days in the states.

@Daoman I keep forgetting we live in the same state.

What would you guys think of doing August 1st-4th? Gives us a chance to fly in, fly out, and spend two full days in NY. Alternatively we could just do the 1st-3rd but that seems a bit short for those coming a long way.

Anyone who's coming from Europe, if you want to see the sights in Toronto beforehand to make the trip worth it, let me know :)

With my birthday on August 2nd, I'd be fine with this, if everything goes well on my side.
