I'm considering changing things up by using the class system so a character does 'guns' and then has a battlechar with guns, and then gets to a certain level and learns the aim skill and then if they change to class 'knifes' they're able to aim with knives if they want, and their battlechar has a knife. Dunno if that would end up being unnecessary work...

Sounds like a bit of unnecessary work for this game at least. I figure that since it will kinda separate stories; characters may change often. So maybe keep that idea but don't try to implement it as the first person with the game. You might lose focus of making the chapter itself.

But maybe we'll work it in later or if you just do the groundwork.

I had a flaweless change equip system called "Requip" on my old computer. Also had a bullet swap I did for Zoltar's private request but ended up keeping for Jet's laser lance. Sadly both were lost but I might be able to recall the code enough to make a copy paste demo if you give me a day or two. I know it's not too hard and if you do it right you can have battle animation battlers take th eplace of weapons latter if you want to make longer animations like I did for Spring Valley with the two ultimate weapons having crazy long sequences and how some of Buya's weapons have comic misfires and such XD Gosh I loved making those.

I know I should have asked this about 10 years ago, but what do you guys use to save as 256 bmp and still keep the colours? : ) I've kinda been making do with dull colours my whole life but I don't want a dull wild west...

I usually use Asesprite for all pixel art stuff. It cost some cash though.

Sorry for the silence. Just had a lot of things to do the last few weeks. I haven't had time to do much cowboy characters yet. This is what I got so far:

I'm gone this weekend, but hopefully I will be able to get some more done next week.

Thanks man they look wicked : )

My current idea is... The three first characters could be a pickaxe guy (the main character could have come for the gold rush), a grizzly gunslinger guy, and a classic sultry saloon running woman who also dabbles in black magic. If any of those sounds like fun it'd be great if you could sprite something for them : ) I'm starting by just making a lot of maps and stuff so at least I've got some manual labour out of the way.

I tend to use IrfanView to decrease the colour depth of resources. It's a free photo editing tool but since it has the feature to set an exact amount of colour you want to decrease it to it's kinda perfect for it. Just copy the stuff into the software, decrease colour depth, save as PNG.

Also busy this week but will try to do some spriting for you as well. I'm leaving chipsets to Momeka and will focus on NPCs, animals, monsters and some objects and such.

:0 Thanks  guys, appreciated.

EDIT: That software's great prpl, thanks : ) I'm going to attempt one or two chipsets myself so if anyone is about to start one, contact me to make sure I've not already done something similar.

Finished the set of npcs:

And here's the heroes. If you're happy with it I can look into doing battlecharsets for them if you want

Also here's the templates I've been using. More or less the same as the previous chain game. Just tweaked the colors some.

Looking good Momeka.

Should we have a project name for this btw?

Looks great momeka, thanks! : ) Yeah battlechars sound good... In fact can you do a version of the main character with a hat, and have the hat in the battlechar? It'd be cool for the old gunslinger guy to give the hero a hat early on, like "you aint from round here are you boy" type thing.

Sure, I can do that.

Should the weapons be a part of the battlechars? Like in the previous chain game. If so what should their weapons be?

Thanks!

I was keen on the main character having a pickaxe as if he's about to go mining for gold, the old dude having two pistols, and the woman since she's a mage she could just have some token weapon like whipping a handkerchief but she'll mainly be casting spells.

Handkerchiefs are quite old school and they could get fancy embroidered and give magic boosts etc so it might be a nice weapon type.

Pick axe weapon is an awesome idea, kerchief too as even I would have never thought of that! Though if you do use a pick axe don't waste time on a complex mining system? At least not in the opening chapter.

Before me we didn't even give them an official number. I named Warth of Gaia and started It all. There is not a "proper method" for determining a name. I named wrath during my chapter by changing the game's folder name and referring to it as thus. Red named Spring Valley at the start, possibly when she was a mark in a notebook I'd say. Others were labeled post completion like Lost and Found and the DOA first true sequel Tales of Disiasm. Just keep in mind it should be artsy and relate to the purpose of the story without being too blunt.

Also an ex reminded me that even though you have cowboys you don't have to stay strictly in The Wild West. Even if we say this is like Summath Island, a made up area on a presumably parallel Earth, we can still dip into the resources of Asian and European characters and themes of the 1800s and we can always pull a FMA and use steampunk tech to re-shape the development of the land.

As for what resources I need I'm caught between sveral scripts with conflicting themes, ranging from a mystical brothel and parodying a favorite TNG episode involving time travel only using A'Chian races, and will wait till we start giving out chapters to see what I should do and write some example plans that are easy to adapt on the fly. After all Spring Valley made me cut like 40% last time which isn't too terrible considering how much I normally have to erase from a blue print a day or two into my chapters. Also wanna try making some chipsets myself by editing bits of SV to make a testing lab for making new copy paste puzzles. I mean I love my crystals and invisible teleport maze...but it took Prps and Red to save it from that evil phantom tile xD So embarrassing.

Oh and I hate to add to this WoT but we should experiment with a CMS for items as the one thing I hated replaying SV was digging for The Unity Charm. Should at least have a sub pouch that contains key items and useful reused things.

If nothing else maybe we should make a proper thread with sign ups etc.

Unless it's some super simple systems I think it would just be a hassle to work with. Specially when it's multiple people and everyone need to understand the system and how to add stuff to it.
In fact I vote for keeping this game even more simple and do away with multiple party members and not have a party switching system. Just keep it to 4 heroes, or we could keep it to 3 dedicated heroes and have a spot open for "guest" heroes that can join for a chapter.

-------------

Finished the first battlecharset. It's pickaxe guy.

Without hat:

With hat:

From top to bottom
Sheet A:
Idle

Hurt

Attack

Skill

Healing/Defensive Item

Offensive Item

Defend

Abnormal Status

Sheet B:
Victory

Dead

Move Left/Right

The victory animation might be too silly, let me know if it doesn't fit.

Love that  battler.

And I kinda agree that we should perhaps make an actual thread for this. Should we put it into RPG Maker Games for once? Or should we create a new board for community project.s?

As for the CMS, I'd say we could plan for one for the next chain game so we know it works and everyone is on board with it to begin with. That would be my suggestion for all custom systems that are supposed to cover the entire game at least.
