Forum Crashes

 Okay why has the main page been missing the last four times I logged in this month? Are we doing maintenance? Or is the site dying?

Maybe we should set up a Charas Discord or something in case the forum explodes and never comes back. That way we can still stay in touch on down times.

I just jump here from time to time to check if everything is ok.
I'm not here on a daily basis, so I had not been able to actually "see" the issue you seem to be talking about, I don't know if in the meanwhile someone already checked and/or fixed that.
On a side note I might ask if, just to be on the safe side, someone is taking backups from time to time!

And to answer the 1st question no, the site is not going to die. I provided the "keys" to manage it as I'm not following it personally anymore, but the site/domain/hosting/etc will stay active just forever (or a least until I'll still be alive!)

Oh my gosh! Alex descends from the great temple to see us mortals again! =D Hey bro! Hope you been well and I'm glad to have your assurance that the site isn't dying as long as you are immortal. Suppose we'll all have to turn the Darkside and clone Alex to rule over us for all eternally.

...Damn it's a shame I don't make Charas Lore fan games since Grande Adventures blew up in my face...That would be a fun new one.

Charas currently resides on my testservers, so although I'm not monitoring it directly, I would have noticed eventual hardware issues.
If everything but the forums was working, then I'd vote for something at software level. But as any IT guy I'd be curious to know WHAT!

I'm pretty sure it said something about failing to connect to some database. And something with like STM, SMTP, or an acronym like that. I can try and screenshot it if it happens again.

That would work. Also to determine if it's about ALL databases or only SMF.
In that case, shall you ever see it happening again, could you also try to the generators here?

IF that will work, then it will mean only the forum DB is affected. If it will not, then it's something about the entire DB server.

I know for sure the main page didn't work cause I always go through the main page to the forum.

Yeah, that's why I asked to check the generators instead.
The main page is not good for testing as it also fetches data from the forum DB as well as others, so basically it will fail if ANYTHING else fails
