Howdy yall.
This is probably a pretty basic thing, but i have two questions:
1.) When i test play, only the main hero has "skills" or magic, despite me giving the entire party (and other available characters) magic/skills. Why can't the others use skill, and/or why doesnt it show up.
2.) When you create an event message, and set it to auto-start, or parallel run, how do you get it to stop repeating. I know it has to do with paging/switching, but i've racked my brain, and not came up with anything.
Thanks for any help.

Well, as for the auto event, create a second page with a condition for let's say Switch 001 ON. Now, somewhere at the end of the event's first page (Auto Start) put an event that Switch 001 ON. Tadah! Make sure to make the second page a non Auto Start event.
I'm clueless about your first question. Doesn't make sense.

Also, to kinda tack on:
Is there a way to increase the party size beyond four?

1. Your heroes have the skills, they just can't use them. In order to allow other heroes to use skills and magic, open the Database, and click the Skills tab. Where it says "Skill Type" or something of that sort (it's a drop-down menu in the top middle), set everything to the type "Skill".
Now, go into the Battle Layout tab. Click the hero's name on the left, and look at the list of commands on the right. Add the "Skill" command to any empty space. Do this with all the heroes who have skills.
If you want to differentiate certain types of skills or magics, hit the Set button to the right of the command list. Click an empty space (hit Set Array Size and increase the number if there isn't any), set the Archetype to Skill Subset, and name it whatever you want. Then go into the Skills tab, and set all desired skills to that particular skill type.
2. Once the message has shown, create a Switch Operation that turns a particular switch (call it EventOff) ON. Click the New Page window, and set one of the Preconditions on the left to "Switch EventOff ON" (click the checkbox, and select the switch you turned ON in the previous page). Set the trigger to Action Key, and leave everything else blank. This is also how you create working treasure chests, cutscenes, and the like.
3. Unfortunately, there is no option within the default system which allows you to have more than 4 heroes in the party. The only way to do this would be by custom battle and menu systems, which are difficult to code and time-consuming, so unless you find an experienced coder to help you with your game, you're outta luck.
