Simple. Name the most dramatic, emotional, or sad event in gaming history you can think of. If the event is a major spoiler, put the title of the game, and then the moment in spoilers. Example, mine:
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
The end of the final battle. Naked Snake AKA Big Boss takes up the gun of Boss and slowly raises it to her head, and (player input) fires. Then, there's EVA's emotional speech during the closing cutscene, and finally BB's dramatic, teary salute to Boss's grave.
Also, Aerith's death is not permitted. Every knows about that (unless you live in a cardboard box (MGS pun not intended))

Jenny in The Darkness
I was shocked
She get's shot in the face
In camera
After she tells you she loves you
Jesus ****ing Christ
-
Breath of Fire 2. I don't rationally know why, but that game affected me more than pretty much any rpg. There were so many moments, some of which are sure are slipping my mind, but
rand's mum sacrificing herself for you, the whole tigris-humanchick relationship thing with them both dying at the end, the discovery of sten's origin and his battle with whats-his-face and, of course, the return to your hometown and rediscovery of the cornfields (The music really made that scene).
-
The Darkness. This scene was just wow for me.
The death of Jenny just grasped me. Earlier in the game you get this very lovely scene of the main character watching tv with Jenny while she falls asleep against you. Then the game goes haywire and your uncle takes her to the orphanage you grew up in with here. The monster inside you, the darkness, stops you to do anything and your uncle kills Jenny. But to make this even more memoriable, Jacky gives up on life, fights the Darkness, grabs his gun and shoots himself square in the mouth.
Epic, just epic.

The metroid larva in super metroid.

Suikoden II
Nanami's death.
Suikoden V
Roy's "WHY THE **** DID YOU PICK THAT DECISION YOU FOOL" death.
Chrono Trigger, the bad-good ending, the one where you get the good standart ending but
sacrifices the Epoch
. Don't know why, but I felt that was pretty sad.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
The last trial on Damon Gant's episode. The whole thing was epic and emotional
Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations
The epic objection when accusing Godot, May Fey dying, Hawthorn being imprisioned.
Disgaea
Red Moon episode ending.
Metal Gear
Meryl's death, if you pick the bad ending.
-
Yoshimo betrayed me Q_Q
-
The only sad parts that come to my mind right now are from Chrono Trigger:
When you meet the R-Series. Those who were once Robo's "friends" now nearly "kill" him. Aw...

After fighting Azala, when Ayla want to take her with them, but Azala refuses.

When you see Glenn's (Frog) story with Cyrus and all.
Also, anytime the "sad music" plays. Just hearing it is enough...
-
GUESS!! I'm obsessed with it!!

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!

Silent Hill 2
Whenever the video played of James killing Mary and then reading her letter to him made me cry ;_;
-
Star ocean PS2
When the earth is destroyed by the enforces and the party can do nothing to watch. Amazing cutscene.

When you realize that you're nothing but digital data somehow able to interact with the real world...
Breath of fire II
The Bad ending where the hero turns himself into a dragon and goes to sleep at the entrance to the underworld, leaving his party members behind.
Final Fantasy crystal chronicles the rings of fate(DS)
The guy grows up in an empty town with his coma-stated sister. He keeps talking to her like she's awake and normal but she's just laying there all the time.
end
The ending and everything about it. The girl turns into a soulless being while the guy's body begins to die. He can barely move or act because he released all his powers. And she lacks any emotions or such because she released her powers.
Ends with her leaving him behind outdoors in the snow while she gets beamed into heaven.
I think that's about it

I seriously forgot the entire scene...thanks for posting the detailed version
But seriously
That scene was epic in sadness
-
The ending of Half-LifeČ: Episode 2. It was the first time I was left shocked from a game.

It indeed is. The Darkness is just a magnificent game. A bit overlooked in my opinion, cause I never hear anyone saying they played it.
-
Never played it.
-
My brother's playing The Darkness right now, actually.
Can't seem to remember many, so here's some of mine:
Disgaea: Hour of Darkness
A good chunk of Episode 8: Reincarnation. The anime version of it (Episode 11) was even more tragic, IMO.

Flonne's 'death'. It was pretty emotional before the final battle started. (And depending on the ending, even after. Like the worst ending by beating the Dark Assembly 100 times where Laharl simply walks away with the flower, or the Normal Ending, where Laharl gives his life to save Flonne.
Ace Combat 5:
Chopper's death. Man, he was a great character. It really sucked when he got shot down, with everyone trying to help him and what not.
-
Disgea 2 I don't really remeber what happened that much so no posts saying thats not what happened :badboy:
After Rozalin(as Zenon) kills the fake Zenon, Rozalin tells Adell that he was also her enemy, and then the battle ensues. After the battle, Adell accidentally killed Rozalin, Adell cries over the death of Rozalin and saying things like he was supposed to protect her, The soul of Zenon...Takes over Adell after the credits Adell Rips apart Hanako and Taro, the screen fades to black and you just here adell say "....I am a being of Solitude..." http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y255/Redfury509/Disgaea/Fan%20Art/Disgaea2_AdellZenon.png
O_O.......
i think im going to cry

AMAZING GAME! Oh.... that didn't happen to me. I got the happy ending :D

I got that ending on my second or third (can't remember which one) run, but wow, I don't remember seeing that pic at the end. Or is that fan-art? O_O That's friggen creepy either way. Though, you're description pretty accurate to what I remember.
-
Its fan-art I just put that there so that people could see what he might look like, I never got the ending My bro was talking to me about one day and I decided to youtube it, the only endings I got were the
super happy fun time ending, the Axel dark hero ending, and the Etna and Laharl ending by that I mean beating Etna getting her title, and for Laharl him blowing up the planet
would that count as a tragic moment to? okay then *spoiler
-
Mine also from Chrono Trigger
The entire ocean palace scene. Magus has spent his entire adult life trying to become strong enough to defeat Lavos, but he is nothing but an insect alone compared to Lavos, who trashes him and your entire party with extremely small effort. Chrono sacrifices himself in a bold attempt to stop Lavos from consuming the rest of his party and is utterly destroyed by the power of Lavos. Lavos then shoots down the entire Kingdom of Zeal, killing almost the entire population and causing tidal waves and cataclyms that leave the world almost completely destroyed. Schala uses the last of her magic to teleport your party to saftey, sacrificing herself in the process. There's an overwhelming sense that the entire quest to defeat Lavos has been in vain since he dispatched you so quickly, and Chrono is very dead and can actually stay dead until the end of the game.
Grandia II. Freaking Grandia II.
When you're looking for the Eyes of Valmar, you go to a town where the villagers are hating on a woman that they claim is a witch. Her daughter is a sickly little girl who only wants people to get along. You suspect that her mother is possessed by the Eyes of Valmar, when in reality...it's her DAUGHTER. You have to go into her mind to try and stop Valmar from completely taking over her, but even then, when Millenia tries to take the Eyes, she lets slip the fact that taking Valmar out of the girl will destroy her soul. And she just....does it.
I didn't cry, but it was still a low blow for me.
There's also the ending for Astro Boy: Omega Factor, for the GBA.
Long story short(er), you find out that Nuka, the girl Astro has a crush on, is a part of an anti-robotic super-weapon called Death Mask, which contains an element called Omotanium. Omotanium, by the way, can destroy robotic neurons. Astro fights the guy who's controlling it, but the Omotanium is released from Death Mask. It turns out, Omotanium is a living element, and it becomes the Devil Machine, Garon. Astro destroys him...but the Omotanium ends up falling into the Sun (don't ask how). Nuka, luckily, is still alive...sorta, as she's now a bunch of pieces of scrap metal. She tells Astro that she can control the Omotanium and stop it from making the Sun explode. Enter the last level of the game: The World's Greatest Adventure. It's a long level, where you can't attack. It's just you carrying a piece of Nuka to the sun, while trying not to get pummeled to death by the spare pieces of metal that are flying towards the Sun. Astro declares that he'll go anywhere with Nuka, and goes into the Sun with her. The Sun returns back to normal, and Astro and Nuka...die.
Everyone on Earth that Astro affected or met (which is, a whole lot of people) starts crying out for him. Phoenix then decides to reward Astro and Nuka for their efforts by bringing them back to life; Astro thus triumphantly carries Nuka back to Earth, while memories of everyone he met on Earth fly past him.
Afterwards, you see the silhouette of Dr. Tenma, the man who created Astro, as well as the father of the boy who inspired him. He's thinking about his son, and says something along the lines of:
"Do you see him, Tobio? It's Astro. He's leading us...Astro, you must become stronger. Surpass the limits that man cannot! You must go beyond science, religion, philosophy, poverty, hunger, and war...!"
It doesn't help that The World's Greatest Adventure has that song from Gunstar Heroes where Green dies playing.
Finally,
when Neifirst kills Nei in Phantasy Star II. Again, I didn't cry, but....why did the catgirl have to die?! Why didn't they kill Shir?! At least Shir is useless!
-
Every RPG ending makes me wanna cry, but the Suikoden ones are just devastating. When it begins to roll what happened to each character after the war man, that just kills me, I start missing those non-existing people.
Xenogears was also mindblowing to me, really emotional.
I'll think of more later, I gotta go to work.
-
Phantasy IV, what happened to Alys (sp?). I was so pissed -_- Chaz is annoying as **** and why did she take his hit?! Dumb bard T-T
-
The only notable one for me is Tales of Phantasia:
It turns out that Dhaos, the major villain, is an extraterrestrial, and his people are dying. So he comes to the world Phantasia's set on to find a Mana Seed, which will grow into a Mana Tree (mana being life energy) and save his people. But the heroes kill him at the end of the game, which totally ruins his race's chances of survival.
Lost Odyssey. I doubt most of you have played it. If you own an Xbox360 and you want a good old-fashioned JRPG, look into it.
The ending is sort of bittersweet. The main thing is A Thousand Years Of Dreams, which are purely text flashback/story scenes which you unlock throughout the course of the game. All of them are really emotional.
This one (http://lostodyssey.wikia.com/wiki/Don%27t_Forget_Me_Now%2C_You_Hear%3F) had me tearing up and everything. Play this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFGrxKDrluI) in the background. Or this. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSYw7BNIWs4) Go on.
-
Fantastic game if I may add, Draggy. The Thousand Years of Dreams stories were very touching. I especially love:
Hanna's Departure (http://lostodyssey.wikia.com/wiki/Hanna%27s_Departure)
A Hero's Return (http://lostodyssey.wikia.com/wiki/A_Hero%27s_Return)
White Flowers (http://lostodyssey.wikia.com/wiki/White_Flowers)
Bright Rain (http://lostodyssey.wikia.com/wiki/Bright_Rain)
The Story of Old Man Greo (http://lostodyssey.wikia.com/wiki/The_Story_of_Old_Man_Greo)
Letters from a Weakling (http://lostodyssey.wikia.com/wiki/Letters_from_a_Weakling)
Some made me teary eyes because the story + music is just brilliant.

Ah, another one from me. Link's Awakening
ALL A FREAKING DREAM. None of those awesome characters ever existed, including Marin, who was one of the best developed "Zelda girls" short of Midna. Ahhh they even went on a date to the beach and ran around the island and she encouraged me to attack chickens and break stuff. Alas for poor non-existent Marin. Link's Awakening was one of the first games with a story that I actually beat, and it was a really sad ending, so that probably left me scarred somehow.
-
Well,
I never saw it as "just a dream". I always saw it as a world inside of dreams, almost another dimension. Sure, the world was created by the Windfish, but who's to say that it didn't actually exist? Who's to say it doesn't still exist? Remember that one house where you could go into a dream world? I forgot what the item you went in there for was, but the item was real. You got it, woke up, and used it. Think of this dream world as that sort of thing. Think of the dream as a portal to this otherwise inaccessible place. Sure, the Windfish woke up, but why would a place it brought into existence be destroyed by its waking? None of the characters knew for sure what would happen when it awoke, and we don't, either. We may never be able to return there, but we can't just assume that everything there is gone forever.
-
I think it was
the ocarina
I like your view of
the dream as being another world. And you may be right about it. Apparently, when you beat the game with a certain condition I forgot, you can see a seagull fly (presumably Marin, since she said she wished to be a seagull to fly etc.) and I think you can also see the Windfish. However, I'm not sure about that...
There is something I don't understand, though... it's been a while I haven't played Link's Awakening...
When you beat the game, Link wake up in the middle of the Ocean... how can he return home now that his boat has been destroyed?
-
Who says he does? lel.
-
Oh, neat bit of trivia: The Windfish can be seen flying around one of the sets of line tracks in Kirby Airride on the Frozen Hills track. Quite a neat thingy. That level was my favorite because of that easter egg.
-
Who says he does? lel.
Uhm, indeed. Then that would mean it could be one of the most tragic video game moment, since
he doesn't go home, he would just die there if no one comes to save him. That's tragic.
-
Oh, you know, it's also pretty tragic when
you lose.
-
Well, not really since when
you lose, you just don't wake up. That means, in some way, that you will die in your sleep. However, when you complete the game, you wake up in the middle of the ocean, where probably no one will come to save you, so you will die slowly, alone...
Or unless you actually meant
The game.
-
Ah, you caught me! #2, S.V.P.
-
At the end of the game you see a seagul, but if you beat it with 0 deaths, you see Marin's sprite flying by with wings instead of the seagul. Hard to say if this is canon or just a little easter egg. Honestly if they added her in as a cameo in a later game, even an extremely small nearly inconsequentially small role, it would prove her existance at all and make me a Zelda fan until the end of my days. But they don't really do things like that.
-
Oh, yeah. I remember that. I didn't know it was the result of a deathless run, though.
I don't die in Zelda games.
-
Me neither. Well, actually I do sometime, but I always reset.
However, I don't remember it, even though I did beat the game without dying. But that's probably due to my bad memory.
-
Twilight Princess. :'(
-
Honestly if they added her in as a cameo in a later game,
Actually... I seem to recall her having a cameo somewhere...
-
They made a trophy in SSBM for Marin. But that's about it.
-
They made a trophy in SSBM for Marin. But that's about it.
I mean in another Legend of Zelda game, I seem to recall some small underlying reference...
-
Twilight Princess. :'(
Oh God, I loved that game. And the ending was pretty sad.
-
The death of Lavitz from Legend of Dragoon. I still weep for him from time to time.
Oh yeah spoiler btw
-
Oh God, I loved that game. And the ending was pretty sad.
The ending wasn't so much sad as WHAT
-
I know I've said it once, but I'll say it again:
The first time I watched the ending cutscene of Kingdom Hearts, I almost cried when
Kairi finished the sketch Sora started at the start of the game
-
The ending wasn't so much sad as WHAT
I don't agree, but that's the beauty of opinions.
