Title: Good Genesis/Mega Drive games?
Post by: forgetaboutit on July 04, 2009, 04:11:49 PM
I just got a genesis emulator for PS2, going to make a CD with all the awesome games (I own a genesis, but I cant find new cartridges anywhere to buy). The ones I have in mind so far:
All sonic games
All streets of rage games
Golden Axe
Flicky (I love that game :P)
Comix Zone (heard its good)
Revenge of Shinobi (Great gameplay, and the best music/graphics of all genesis games)

Thats all I can think. Ideas are welcome.

Gunstar Heroes
Phantasy Star IV (The only good one besides maybe II.)
Road Rash
Green Dog: Legened of the Beached Surfer Dude
Ristar
Dynamite Heady
Bubsy
Pugsy
Cool Spot

And besides, if you have the emulator for PS2, it means you can burn on a DVD, just torrent ALL of the games, and put them on one Disk. It's what I did.

Bah. Apex pretty much said all the ones I was going to mention. Except maybe bubsy. I saw someone play through that game, and it looked really painful.

A few more odd titles to add to the list. These are alright games, methinks:

Kid Chameleon (Sort of a Genesis Mario Clone)
Splatterhouse 3 (Beat-em-up horror game)
Thunder Force 4 (Side-scrolling shooter. With some incredible music.)
Streets of Rage Series

Revenge of Shinobi (Great gameplay, and the best music/graphics of all genesis games)

Gunstar Heroes and Dynamite Heady are really going to challenge that notion.

GAAAAAAAAGH! How did I forget Streets of Rage?!

Also, Treasure games (Gunstar Heroes and Dynamite Heady) are naturally good, you should look into more of theirs, like Barney's Hide and Seek.

Streets of Rage 2 is the greatest Megadrive game ever.

Ristar is awesome. If you didn't put Ristar on your Genesis CD you are a sad, sad man.

Hard to say what is THE best. Each game has it's ups and downs. Phantasy Star, Sonic the Hedgehog, Ristar, Rocket Knight Adventures. So many good games to choose from.

I also put in Michael Jackson's Moonwalker, just for the lulz. :P

We all do at one point. You grasp the concept of rescuing children yet?

I loved MJ's Moonwalker. No, really. It was, next to Marvel vs. Capcom, the best game at the arcade where I grew up.

Besides, it's me. Archem.

wow, I I was expecting these to already be posted.
If they were it proves my inability/laziness to read.

Light Crusader
Sonic and Knuckles
Earthworm Jim
Shining Force
Zombies ate my neighbors

Wait, nobody mentioned Sonic and Knuckles, Earthworm Jim, or Shining Force?!

I skimmed very quickly, so I hadn't noticed. Shame on you. I didn't even own a Genesis, and I know the awesome these games hold.

Lucas Iri already included all the sonic games, so that's that there...

The other two are inexcusable to forget, though! I shall now beat myself to deaf!

Earthworm Jim was a kick *** game. I only ever had it for the super nintendo though.

Be sure to get BOTH Shining Forces; the GBA remake of Shining Force is epic, but the original is still fun. The sequel is even better.

I second the notion of Phantasy Star II; III is enjoyable, but it's like sifting through mud for quartz. Skip it for IV if you want. Also: Wasn't there also a great X-men game for Sega? It required that you reset the system to clear a level...

Is this some sort of zany trick-question where you answer your question for us?

AVGN talked about it, actually.
In his overall X-Men review.
I think he said it was actually pretty good...
EDIT: Just re-watched the review. He said it was okay, but he recommends the second one on the Genesis, X-Men 2: Clone Wars.

Genesis=Mega Drive (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mega_Drive), in case you didn't know that.

Wasn't Mega drive an enhanced Genesis, that some games could only run on Mega drive and NOT Genesis, or is that something else?
Title: Re: Good Genesis/Mega Drive games?
Post by: fruckert on July 06, 2009, 11:53:50 PM
No, they were the same thing.
Mega Drive is just it's Japanese name.

Damn you America, is there ANYTHING we don't change upon touchdown on American soil?

Title: Re: Good Genesis/Mega Drive games?

No. Mega Drive = Genesis everywhere but USA.
Well, I didn't know that.
Title: Re: Good Genesis/Mega Drive games?
Post by: Felix-0 on July 07, 2009, 12:12:16 AM
Mega Drive was already copyrighted on the US so they had to change the name.

And US, not America. I am from south America yet I play a Mega Drive and not a Genesis :P

Sorry, I have a bad tendency to forget that.

I dont think there are videogames on mexico. Just a bunch of old people with huge hats and mustaches, who play guitar all day.
This is the truth. In fact, I'm in Mexico right now, playing my guitar.

Did I mention I have a huge hat and moustache?

One time I saw this commercial that was trying to sell a zen foot spa thing, and it featured one of said luchadores. He was obese, and wearing borderline S & M gear.

You're probably thinking of the 32X. It plugs into the Genesis's game slot, then you put the 32X games into it.

There were two things: 32x and Sega CD.
