wow, I I was expecting these to already be posted.
If they were it proves my inability/laziness to read.

Light Crusader
Sonic and Knuckles
Earthworm Jim
Shining Force
Zombies ate my neighbors

Wait, nobody mentioned Sonic and Knuckles, Earthworm Jim, or Shining Force?!

I skimmed very quickly, so I hadn't noticed. Shame on you. I didn't even own a Genesis, and I know the awesome these games hold.

Lucas Iri already included all the sonic games, so that's that there...

The other two are inexcusable to forget, though! I shall now beat myself to deaf!

Be sure to get BOTH Shining Forces; the GBA remake of Shining Force is epic, but the original is still fun. The sequel is even better.

I second the notion of Phantasy Star II; III is enjoyable, but it's like sifting through mud for quartz. Skip it for IV if you want. Also: Wasn't there also a great X-men game for Sega? It required that you reset the system to clear a level...

Is this some sort of zany trick-question where you answer your question for us?

AVGN talked about it, actually.
In his overall X-Men review.
I think he said it was actually pretty good...
EDIT: Just re-watched the review. He said it was okay, but he recommends the second one on the Genesis, X-Men 2: Clone Wars.

Wasn't Mega drive an enhanced Genesis, that some games could only run on Mega drive and NOT Genesis, or is that something else?

No, they were the same thing.
Mega Drive is just it's Japanese name.
