Title: Let's talk about some strange Boss/Final Boss battle music.
Post by: Felix-0 on July 27, 2012, 06:29:40 PM
Why? Because I love it, love the heck out of it. When Climatic moments have such strange, bizarre/ unfitting themes.

In a clever done way.

My first exibit.
Moody Goddess.
1: It's swing/Smooth Jazz.
2: The setting is futuristic alternate reality.
3: The boss isn't even a goddess of any sort.
4: It's so strange.

Giacomo Boss Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLPuvLmjbMk). Honestly thought, the entire Baten Kaitos soundtrack is fresh and original.

Also, do you guys have embedding options here or no?

No embedding, but that's a very strange song. To say the least. Depends on the atmosphere of the game at the same.

I'd love it if we did get some embedding going on. It's quite possible, what with all the updates going on.

Ed! Get on it!

Ed! Get on it!

Not in my power. I can't modify BBC code with just a theme. Lucas would have to install a mod for that.

BTW, Majora's Incarnation (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEoD6M-kdAs).

Mods are made in PHP right?
That'd be doable, although there's probably already an embedding mod out there.

What we need again are spoilers
I don't know how that happened.

I consider you responsible. Make Lucas do things. I COMMAND IT.

Aeva (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=977), media embedding.
Motherfucking spoilers (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=195).

Wow, embedding and Spoilers are both back. I love it.

The song playing has to stand out, not be like any other song from the said game, and feel out of place.

This is now MOST star Ocean 3 songs sound, now compare that to Moody Goddess, and you being to get a WTF feeling.

All final boss music I can think of is just...boss music.
Nothing too weird.

I can't come up with any at the top of my head to be honest. I know a lot of boss music that's odd but not alot of final boss music.

I'm going to cheat and put dissonant music from an anime.

To be fair, it was during the anime's climax, which is kind of boss fight-y.

Well then. Pretty much all games that suddenly throw in a song with lyrics when it's more or less just pure music otherwise.

Sure, FFX Otherworld (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXDxYIWAT7Y#) is awesome and played at the intro scene as well but a more epicfied version would've been nice.

Also this boss theme from FFXIII-2, kinda odd. FFXIII-2 OST - Worlds Collide (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCZXWBFOQTo#)

I like the Blitzball theme, and it is very unfitting for actual battle music, and is out of place.

Sonic Adventure 2 Final Boss Battle Theme Live and Learn (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5nEMIdTn38#)

This, Sonic A2B.

As a FINAL BOSS THEME, THE EARTH IS GOING TO BE OBLITERATED IF YOU LOSE THIS FIGHT.
Let's play Live and Learn~
= n=
Honestly. I was kind of upset, that it wasn't a more on beat, action packed, intense song.

Honestly, Biolizard should've just been the final boss.

Also the battle against Great Ezi in Eternal sonata. Although you kinda expect that kind of music against such a messed up boss as it.

The music is quite crazy, but seeing gameplay makes me want this game even more :o

Yeah, EZI temple all around was wacky. I luv'd it. 2-3 level-ups per battle made it very nice too.

I'm a fan of end-of-game Persona battle music, because it is typically a compilation of remixed versions of the normally 'calm' tracks in the game.

Also the music when fighting Chaos in FF Dissidia. Seems a bit unfitting.

Weird boss & final boss themes?

Well, if quality is not a prequesite, then the final boss themes for the following games count:

-the final boss of the incredibly bad Bebe's Kids for the SNES. Basically? For those who missed out on this abomination (be thankful for that), it's basically a voice clip saying 'Too strong' over and over with a cheap rap-ish beat in the background. It loops in about 15 seconds or so and repeat over and over and over.

-the final boss theme of Sonic Rush (Wrapped in Black). Sonic Rush is full of bad music with rap-ish one sentence 'songs' and well, the final boss theme pretty much showcase this the best out of all the themes. Simply put, take Bebe's Kids's final boss theme, add 'Eggman' to the 'lyrics', add an extra 15 seconds to the loop, and there you go.

-the final boss theme from Chrono Cross. The actual final boss theme, as in "Into a Time of Darkness", not "Dragon God". Basically, considering Chrono Trigger's own final boss themes (World Revolution and Last Battle) and the fact that the game thrown Dragon God at you for the previous fight, you'd expect the final fight to be a step-up or at least, fitting equivalent, right? Well, nope. You get a cacophonic serie of clangs and then what seems to be wind with a few effects added in. It's a bit too loud to be an ambiant track proper but it's pretty hard to call it music either...

Chrono Trigger - Lavos Final Boss Battle Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpaJulksCik#noexternalembed)

This theme, isn't THAT out of place, but it is strange and wacky, but with the background and the beat around 0:35
it gets to sound like your good ole CT music.

Considering that Cross's soundtrack was actually on the level of Trigger's, it's so strange they made a final boss with no music. But that game made a number of odd choices as it finished so who even knows man.

Jet Set Radio Future - Grace and Glory [B.B. Rights Mix] (Extended Version) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cy_WG9n4pi4#ws)

considering it to be a part of the JSRF Soundtrack, it's not too far off the games original sound, but for a final boss theme.
It's both unique and far from generic.

Examples of generic overly heavy ques and choir voices final boss themes.

honestly wrapped in black is kind of catchy, but it's more fitting for a stage music, it really reminded me of Jet Set Raido Future kind of music, and therefore I like it.

Gloomy dance has been haunting my mind for the longest time. I knew it was the Human playthrough side, and I knew the ending was sad. Just watched a video, ouch. Any player who picks the human side gets a HUGE slap in the face ; A;
It makes sense that the final theme is depressing.

Here's the final boss theme for the good ending.
