The only flaw I saw is that your character names are from Age of Mythology and that guild name is from StarCraft. It annoys me a little, but the rest is perfect.

Odin and Loki are from the norse mothology, his choice of names probably has absolute nothing to do with the game Age of Mythology...
And Yggdrasil is the World tree from Norse mythology as well.

The gaming companies got inspired by our mothology and so did Fortet here.

Yes, but most Americans ect only know what you are talking about if you say "norse" since they describe our ancient religion as "norse mythology" all thanks to Norway being in nato and all...

History changes after the writers...

It seems cool.
It'de be cool if there was a forum ingame like in the actual ones. And all the character emails. But that would probally be a huge pain in the *** to add and a delay.

The only thing I don't like is calling it the Ragnarok incident since Ragnarok itself is overused in many games. Though it does fit with the whole Norse theme.
One version of Ragnarok  sort of, also means Twilight.

Well, the Japanese server incident is the Twilight incident.

I'm not sure what your game is about honestly.. I did not understand the storyline whatsoever.   The game looks pretty fun but I don't understand how you got "Characters" and than class selections. . Is Loki and Odin your party or?   Also, the name of the game is whack as it comes.  Besides that it looks pretty good.

The worlds of old the the worlds of new always meet each other, but not always as we think they would...
After the Twilight incident in Japan, servers were shut down for maintenance. Shortly after, a new incident occurred in America, now known as the Ragnarok incident.

Please for the love of games that don't suck..  be more descriptive in your story.

If I told you what the Ragnarok incident was, I would have spoiled everything.
That's what you're playing through in the game - the Ragnarok incident . . .

.hack// is the name of the series this fan game is based on. 'Refresh' is the general
theme of the game.

New Updates: 2/13/08

Notes on possible demo:
While there is nothing to truly play through, I may have a tech demo available around the end of March/the beginning of April. It would include the completed Character Creation System, an example of the many areas available to travel to in Mac Anu, a small teaser of Asgard, and a few other things to look forward to in the real game.

Notes on production:
I am currently looking for a small team to help me make the game. Let's face it, this is a huge game (a trilogy of games, really!), and I can't handle it alone. Possible fields I'm looking into:
-Music Composition
-Character Spriting
-Story Co-Lead
I will still handle chipset sprites and map making, as well as coding the features into the game. If you are interested, please PM me with what job you wish for and some examples of your previous work. Spriters, please note: if you are chosen, you must match the style of the rest of the game, and must therefore be flexible.

That's all for today!

Also.  I give you a Saxophone for your inventory.

Its nice to know this is still alive. ^^

This looks amasing,
A. What type of combat is it
B. Give it some futuristic looks(not overdone,)
C. Star Ocean music would be great for this type of game
D. I can get you midi's easily(but not self made)
E. I'd like to help if it's ABS and If you've played .hack games you know where you have to enter
names to change worlds...I know how to do that-as we'll as a phone system ^__^

Currently, I'm using the DBS for many reasons -
a. The Coding for every single class/gender/color mix would be hell
b. Same for the spriting
As for the graphics, the "real world" will have a "futuristic" look to it. The graphics "online" will have heavy earth tones.
I'm going to avoid using pre-made music from other games completely. If worse comes to worse, I use my musical abilities to compose the music myself >_>
I'm working on many ways to work the Gate System. A prototype is in the works.

-Character Spriting

What kind of character spriting? Battle sets or Charas? 'Cause I can do both, and would be glad to.

All classes are in the game, so yes, WaveMasters are in there.
@Fish: NPCs are needed. Send me a PM with some of your work and I'll tell you if I'm interested or not, because the graphics in this game are fairly heavy.

Hears classes I can do
A broad subject
I'm going by FFT
Archer
Mage(battle/black/white)
Illusionist(attacks all)
2 handed people
1 handed weapons
Thieves
Gunners
Title: Re: .hack//Refresh Vol. 1
Post by: Meiscool-2 on September 08, 2008, 08:50:58 PM
.hack has very specific classes. Wavemasters are the mages, then there are the weapon wielders which are basically: Lancers, Axemen, Twohander Swordsmen, Singlehanded Swordsmen, and Duel Daggers. In the newer series there are two mage types and gunner plus a sickle wielder, but I personally think that that series stunk. Making any other class would be going outside the norm.

Wow, this looks awesome! I definatly love the idea of character creation, I was thinking about making a game where you creat your own character too, but I realized that it took too much work, so I gave up... (All the possiblities!)

Anyway, it looks really cool, and I'd definatly like to play it once it's done!

LOOKING FOR BETA TESTERS!

But only for a tech demo. Since I don't have the time to sit down and look for every bug in the system, I just need a few people who are willing to play with the Character Creation System and run around Mac Anu to look for any bugs. If interested, please reply. The first five (5) to show interest will be chosen.

What do you guys think? I've decided that, instead of a vague color scheme idea, I implement a "wave system." AKA, be lazy and choose colors based on elements. These are the new sprite for both WaveMaster ganders and the Male LongArms. The waves include Earth, Water, Fire, and Darkness.

No, no demo yet. I've found some huge cracks in my coding that I can't just fix in a snap, so I may have to start a new database. It would be fairly simple to get back to where I am right now, though. Don't expect a demo anytime soon, though. I have so much spriting left to do.

EDIT: Added Female Twinblades some time ago. Just never posted them :/

After a massive overhaul these past few weeks, I am proud to say .hack//Refresh is in production once again. Currently in pre-production, I am ever busy recoding every feature, as well as coding new ones to give a unique feeling to this fan game. Current features in production:
-A new Chaos Gate, complete with a word list to create fields
-Reworked Character Creation system, fixing any and all bugs from the closed tech demo
-Monster Gates in fields, as seen in the original games and anime
-Relationship System which will determine if your friends will want to form parties with you

Screenshots of all of these systems will be on the way soon, as well as a public tech demo featuring all systems (minus the relationship system)

Here's a WIP of the Monster Gate. It spins in place as the rings rotate on the center axis of the gate.

Please excuse the horribleness that is the field chipset. It's on old one. I need to redo it completely.

So here's the lowdown on the new Character Creation system:

Taking a note from the game .hack//fragment, I have created a new way to create your own personalized character! You start by choosing your class from the above screen. After that, a new sub-screen appears, prompting you to choose your gender, followed by you Elite Character Type. Each class has three Elite Character Types; think of it as a secondary class that only affects the kind of weapons your character can equip (i.e., a Wandering Wavemaster equips wands, a Monk Wavemaster equips staffs, and a Scholar Wavemaster equips spellbooks). Next, you're asked to choose between four waves: Earth, Fire, Water, and Dark. That makes for 144 different possible playable characters!

(Note: As I complete spriting all available options, the rest of the class buttons will have their own silhouettes previewing a possible E.C.T.)

Wel now! This is looking most promising!...Like it ever stoped XD Nice sprites man, keep up the good work and I'm very much looking forward to dissecting that character creation system as I've always wanted to see if it'd work in RPG maker 2003.

So I'm not dead! I've been working on this like crazy!
I'm waiting for Prpl_Mage to give me a diagnostics on the Chaos Gate menu, and I've been busy spriting for Theta Server (Dun Loireag), other party members (whom will soon be made known), and setting up various in-game systems (in-game menu for "The World," which includes the invite party menu).

Look forward to lots of screenshots soon! :)

Alright, so no screenshots just yet, but loads of fun party members! Here we go:

Name: Eir
Gender: Female
Class: Wavemaster
Age: 14
Player Info: Eir is a gossiper. She loves to know the how-and-when of everything, and is always the player to turn to if you want to know about the latest rumor. Unfortunately, she is also known to lie, and charges a high price for the truth. She prefers to play alone and doesn't have any true friends. She gets her jollies from putting other players down as well.

Name: Tatu
Gender: Male
Class: Blademaster
Age: 23
Player Info: Tatu is a well-known and well-respected player in "The World." A high-level rare item hunter, he's known to hardly ever be found in a root town unless he's holding one of his famous in-game auctions. He derives his name from his aspired career in the real world, and he loves to help out new adventurers from time to time.

Name: Sox
Gender: Male
Class: Twinblade
Age: 10
Player Info: Always rearing and ready to go, Sox is very adventurous for his age. He tends to get carried away too quickly, and because of this tends to get in a lot of trouble. In the real world, he's very intelligent and has skipped grades four through seven.

Name: Lynne
Gender: Female
Age: 27
Class: Heavyaxe
Player Info: Lynne is a player from France who enjoys playing on the American servers from time to time. An English teacher in her native country, her speech is fluent, and she can pull off a rather convincing accent. She's a great strategist and can be very manipulative if necessary. She never acts on impulse and always carries a great sense of tact around herself.

Dear Charas,

.hack//Refrfesh has been such a large work of mine for the past few years.

It has never seen a true demo release.  It has gone through various changes (graphics, story, systems, etc...).  So much has been created for this project.  So much was scrapped from this project.  So much was learned for this project.

And now, I am sad to say that this project, just like all of my projects, will never be completed.

I know no one is truly disappointed.  Sure, you might be a little upset, but did any of you really think I was going to ACTUALLY finish it?

All of that aside, I only have one question for you, Charas: do you want a release of what I have at this point?  Before you answer, this is what a "release" would include:

-A SEVERELY incomplete desktop
-Non-functional Character Creation Menu
-Fully-mapped Mac Anu
-Partially-mapped Dun Loireag
-Partially-functioning Chaos Gate

If anyone is interested, simply post here.  I will zip up a copy and post it here for anybody interested.  It will be in your best interest to open it up as a project in RPG Maker 2003 so you can go in and edit variables/switches as need while running in test play.  This will also give interested people a chance to look at any of the coding or graphics.

I will also be glad to answer any questions regarding any aspect of the project here.  This includes coding, graphics, etc...

Great Love,
-Fortet

Aw... What a bummer. Here I thought you'd update about another cool system in the game and you say that it's over.

And I'm very interested in the project and would love to take part of your hard work. This game is one of those projects that made me seek a deeper knowledge of RPGM programming either way.

Well, if you are interested, I'd be more than happy to zip it up and share it. I haven't done much since you looked at it last, Prpl, but there's still some nifty stuff. I also may share how the various systems would have worked at some point :)

for sure post it.

i for one followed your attempts from as early as .hack//RESURRECTION, and i was never really into it. Playing as a wave master was a bad idea. Completely custom characters was another.

There is so much potential in your ideas. Perhaps take this somewhere else. The best games are former fangames, so who knows.

its upsetting hat this coincides the end of the real .hack series.

godspeed

It was cool, but there was like five minutes of stuff. :/ I know you said there wasn't much, its too bad you couldn't do more with this. I'm gonna roam around the maps later tonight.
