Title: HOME
Post by: Felix-0 on August 16, 2013, 02:55:38 AM
Yep. Finally making a topic for it. Not many people here have Tumblr and this'll serve as an outlet to post updates that I also post on tumblr.  ----> http://rpgmaker.net/games/6361/ (http://rpgmaker.net/games/6361/)  <----------

HOME is a fan sequel to the Judge's special ending of OFF. It follows the Judge on his story through a new project that is catered to him. He has no memory of the previous session and is told one week before the player plays. "That's you." That he is expected to become a marionette by Zacharie. The Judge trusts Zacharie and willingly lets the player take control. HOME begins at the beginning.

It's advised that one plays OFF so that you can have an inkling of what is going on in this strange world.
HOME features all new enemies, sprites, and skills. Everything combat wise is done from scratch.

HOME also features new puzzles. Increased challenging puzzles and enemies, and an integrated resistance system that OFF didn't make much use of.

It also features an entirely new zone. Zone 4.

I will update this post once I take more updated screenshots. I haven't been taking much as I've been busy with my job at walmart and working on technical things HOME related.

Same here haha. Is it OFF an rm2k3 game?

It's a very surreal RPG maker game that was created back in 2003, by the french Mortis Ghost. A playthrough of the game can be seen here, (http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3542682) which kind of spoils it if you're planning to play through. Download link's also included over yonder.

OFF was made with 2k3. 110% recommend playing it. I do avoid watching any playthrough of OFF because it really is a nice experience.

I would like to point out that HOME is not being made by just me.

Video again :3
Title: Re: HOME
Post by: DragonBlaze on August 20, 2013, 11:47:07 PM
So that was a pretty boring video.. The boss seemed like a good enough boss, having the floating crown was an interesting concept, but not interesting enough to watch an exchange of mainly the same attacks being passed back and forth for 9 minutes. Plus you sped through the dialogue, which was disappointing.

I don't mean to rip on the video, mainly I would really like to see a video that showed off game content and not just one single long fight.
Title: Re: HOME
Post by: Felix-0 on August 21, 2013, 01:51:16 AM
Yea. It was a lame video. I was bored and wanted to see. The dialogue is being re-written I just haven't reached that part. I shall post a better more interesting video at a later date.

Home (Off fan sequel) Zone 2 preview (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2s5z-Do_Y4I#)

Here's a hopefully less boring video that shows some old and soon to be reworked dialogue. Mostly just previewing the new zone 2 music and some changes involving the addition of the library card. Which will be used in the new puzzle on the 3rd floor. The current one is kind of lame by my standards of puzzles.

Only about two encounters for the entire video.

If you would like to, I can change the front page post to something about this. Hasn't been an update in ever on it. Seen me a PM containing what you want said and any vids/screens you want in it if that interests you.

Personally, I watched one video already about the meat factory and am turned off for the same reasons DB mentioned, so I haven't given the more recent ones you posted a try. Maybe I will later. Having no knowledge of OFF kinda makes things difficult here.

You should play OFF then silly. It isn't a hard or long project within itself and can be beaten in about a day.

Well it took a while, but I finally watched the video.

It definitely looks very interesting, and I think the style in general is very well done. I still have to go and play OFF one of these days though.

Got the idea of this puzzle from an RPG I played called Death Proclaimed.
Pushing the bottom stone moves the stone on the top. The purpose is to get the stone to the red circle. Simple
puzzle for the most part.

I remember some puzzles like that in Little big planet...2, you move your character at the bottom and a döppelgänger at the top, the outline is different between the rooms but both have to stand in a shining circle for the door to open.

Some more boring generic library stuff. This library is generally massive so a lot of bland scenery but I do my best to make it have visual.

It's getting a lot more attention than I can handle on tumblr. ; 3; I do enjoy it though.
But I get errie when people treat me like a celebrity when they add me on skype or inbox me. It's like I'm just some 21 year old loser I need friends. I don't need to be treated like I'm special cause then I feel alienated and it creeps me out. x_x

Yea. Me too. It's been a fun project. I got a pretty decent team helping me out too in terms of sprites and music. I also picked up music composure myself to aid in the musical process. And I did a little bit of sprite work, but having people help me out allows me to spend more time on mapping and events.

What do you think of the music? I'm actually really proud and looking for critique on them. I've always wanted to do music and only recently did certain elements click in my head.

Other than that, thanks! this project has been a rollercoaster and one helluva time killer. I'm just glad my project has been so well received on tumblr.

Not really much to say about the music. I really enjoyed it. It seems to fit the theme of the game, though I never played the original OFF. It's clearly full of ambiance and is incredibly creepy, so I'd say you hit the nail on the head if that's what you were going for!

I think most programs consider unknown exe files to be malicious.

It's a false positive. As prpl_mage said. The RPG.EXE which runs the game is seen as a malicious file due to being unknown/foreign. It's only Chrome that brings up that error. I also have a song in the game called Virus Nightmare Process. which could also be causing your false positive. The Virus Nightmare Process is the music for the Erebos Proces.
http://youtu.be/S_IeUe6nQr4 (http://youtu.be/S_IeUe6nQr4) Here is the song.

This guy is Erebos process. You should download it and give it a try. Use firefox. Scan if before you unzip it if you feel unsafe. I really want peoples opinions on the general mapping and puzzle/RPG element difficulty. You should try it too prpl.

Well, that makes sense. I'm playing through the game now, half-way through the zone 1. You seem to have forgotten to delete your own test save files before zipping the folder! There are also a lot of spelling errors. Other than those forgivable mistakes, everything is great. I enjoy the humor and the puzzles are challenging. The only design complaint I have is I found it hard to keep playing after the first dungeon because I just didn't care enough about the characters or feel the plot was introduced well enough to convince me to keep grinding. I do  feel odd saying that though because I never played OFF so I don't know if there's just something I'm missing or not. The environment is most certainly creepy and uncomfortable, so you did a good job with that!

I'll let you know what I thought once I finish it

That's the problem. This is a fangame of OFF. You'll be confused a bit as to who these characters are as a whole and won't really feel attached to them. Glad you like the puzzle and atmosphere. I had a testplayer who documented all spelling errors and I had them saved, but then my hard drive had to be wiped clean so I lost those documents. ; a;

Ahh, that sucks! Going through and fixing spelling errors might be more tedious and boring than debugging.

Maybe I'll have to go play of OFF first before continuing.

I'm sorry felix! I just kind of put down rpgmaker in the last few years as well as most video games. I rarely even log on to charas even more. I mean, look at me replying to this two month old comment because I know I said I'd play through your demo and get back to you on it because I didn't and I feel bad! Haha, oh man. bottom left group of workers on the ground floor take you to the right number. I don't understand why people try the roof top number when the worker in the basement tells you that the floor number can be found by the bottom left corner group of workers.

The guy you meet on the roof tells you its right under your nose, so I assumed that because the number on the roof was under my nose so that was the right floor.

The guy on the roof tells you that if "someone" asks you for a password, it will be right under your nose.
The guy in the basement says that the postal service floor number can be found by a group of workers who all spout the same number.

I'm surprised more games don't do it. My favorite game that uses that mechanic would have to be Fey: Ashes of Emeralds. It changes the system menu and uses pictures instead of facesets when you pick up items and it looks really nice.

Just played HOME and I can already say I LOVE the fact The Judge not only breaks the Fourth Wall but pretty much grinds it to dust and scatters it to the four winds! XD It helps his tone reminds me of a Doctor Who incarnation! So sophisticated and snobbish yet not totally unlikable. The universe setup itself is like nothing I've ever seen and oooh the graphics! @-@ Simple but perfect symmetry!! The battle system took me for a loop at first. XD Rather...basic and yet also cleverly designed. "Abscond" instead of Flee or Run. XD Love that. I'm trying Zone 1 right now cause I felt even though it showed me other zones and gave me the choice I knew it would be a bad idea to try one of the higher areas before I had mastered the basics. Two critisims though: One you tell people to play OFF first but you offer no link? <.< Felix! Foreshame. I raised you better that once-young-squire-now-turned-knight...Well I mean I tried to raise you in some ways but you were like the Tamogotchi I lost as a boy and am quite certain didn't live very long. ^^; Two: your battlers don't move much despite being animations. I suppose that saved you time but I'm one who always loves to tinker with the various poses and things in battle and see them when I'm playing an RPG maker game. Some of them, liek the victory and casting pose, are hints at the character's personality. I will amend however it flows so smoothly it's hard to tell right away and the enemies are very well balanced so far. All in all? I LOVE IT!! =D

Oh yeah. I guess I should've made a link to OFF. Google is our best friend around the world thought.
The battlers don't move because they didn't in OFF. It was possible to add animated swipes and poses but I wanted to keep the odd nonsensical style of combat.

The Judge broke the 4th wall often in OFF, it was only natural that I kept him in character.

I suppose when it's a fan game you don't want to change too much that's true. Also I just saw that statuses change the battlers a tiny bit and when the judge died I saw there was indeed more thna a simple flickering out moment. I love the balance of the battle system! O.o The EXP given is descent even in random battles but not insane and the skills themselves are effective but only if you spend them often enough. The varried type of enemies makes you have to use the scan system quite often making it feel like more than a curiosity but rather a tool! Good work there. Also just met Alain and I have to say I found it both humorous and disturbing that he wanted to EAT ME! XD I mean what the heck! Weirdest starting party ever: Snob with ultra-awareness of his world and a uber hungry psychopath. XD Man I just cant get enough of this. Finally got to try this out myself, Mr O, and I have say it's just as demented as I thought it'd be.  :o But it has a strangely addictive battle system and The Judge's snide comments seem to bolster my resolve for some reason. I like how your game's battle speed is enhanced and makes the ATB active more of a challenge too. The unique sets of enemies are fun and challenging. Honestly never appreciated Scan as Spell in an indie game before till this moment. But that scene with those cows split in half was more than a little gross. Good thing 2003's graphics resolution is so small and non-detailed in places. I'm hopping the rest of the game isn't as gory though.  ::) Oh one last thing: the battle screen being so artsy fratsy is actually cool! That must have saved you some time and effort designing each battle huh? Mind if I borrow that technique? Of I had thought of that during Zoltar: Some Kind Super Natural Story it would have helped cut down on work time. :D

Totally score play score so far: :*: :*: :*: :*: and one half cause those cows grossed me out.

Well, for both of you. Zone 4's library has a bug in one of the last puzzles of that area.

I've since updated the download link to have that puzzle fixed.

Aww! I can't right now. <.< Two reasons: I can't get a ride for a bit and I"M GOING TO STRANGLE YOU for making a Zelda Classic styled sequence maze. >-<; I HATE THESE SO MUCH! XO Worse yet your instructions didn't help me at all. -  -; having to scratch out my own map on my notepad.

Steampunk really suits that OFF/HOME style! XD Gotta say that's awesome though. Still doesn't make up for your sequence maze causing me to lose my already thinning hair but it's cool.

Hey, sorry for my belated response. I have been busy since I got a new job. Anyways, I have very recently updated HOME to have a more dramatic ending, clearer plot and better dialogue. It also fixed a bit of game breaking bugs that existed, but if you're still playing HOME I suggest you download the updated version before the end. http://rpgmaker.net/games/6361/ (http://rpgmaker.net/games/6361/)

Home ended up having to forego a facelift because an old artist pretty much came in and was like "blah blah I want every single character and artwork I contributed removed."

So yeah, that happened so I was presented with an awkward situation where I had to remove an already finished game and then spend 3 more months filling in the gaps of artwork, sprites, and characters that were removed to re-release HOME. To make the situation better though, my friend made this really nice trailer for the game.

So yeah.
long story short, home got slightly remade, new story and ending and new characters to replace the removed ones.

Totally score play score so far: :*: :*: :*: :*: and one half cause those cows grossed me out.

lmao can't believe I never seen this comment until now. I really like the review and all the stuff here is nice. Also, yeah you can borrow any sort of reference form HOME. My goal is to inspire others. <3
