A problem with my Pokemon Pearl
« on: June 10, 2007, 02:03:19 PM »
So last tuesday I bought myself Pokemon Pearl for the NDS, and after approximately thirty hours of gameplay I've suddenly ran into a problem.

It happened suddenly after I catch my first legendary pokemon;
I go into the menu to watch the summary of my new pokemon and I see that the bottom of the upper screen is now full of dead pixels in all sorts of colors, and some of the round logos on the lower screen has turned completely black.
At first I thought it was just a temporarily thing and I tried to ignore it, but by time it got worse, and suddenly I couldn't enter the summary screen at all.
Everytime I tried the game would just freeze and both screens would turn black.
Now a couple of hours later I can't even enter the stupid pokemon menu without having the game freeze. v_v

I've already confimed that it is not the NDS that is screwing around, but the game itself, by playing other games such as Hotel Dusk and Final Fantasy 3. And both obviously worked fine.

I also tried making a new file on Pokemon Pearl to see if it was just some kind of glitch I had run into on my saved file only, turns out the problems still there even on a new file.

I know, the game is probably broken and I probably have to purchase a new one, but I thought I might as well, as a last hope of some sort, ask you guys at Charas if anyone has ever had any similar problems to mine and if so, how did you manage to fix it (if you did)?

Thanks for reading. :)

Knowing a bit about how Nintendo portables work, I'd have to say that your game is having problems switching systems. It happened to my Pokemon Diamond, so it shouldn't be too different. (Mine did this after catching my first pokemon, maybe it's because I recreated missingo for the heck of it.)

There are two options:

Get a rom cable, extract the rom from the cartridge, get a rom off of the internet, open it in a hex editor, copy the entire ROM Hex (ending at address 00018944 for Pokemon Pearl) and paste it into your old rom (replace the rom, replacing RAM will cause you to lose game data) and use the cable to reenter it into the cartridge and it should work. Mine did, and I kept my data.

But I'm guessing you don't have a ROM cable, nor know how to work with Hex, so... option 2:

.........you need to buy a new game.  :p

You're right, I have neither knowledge of Hex or a ROM cable.
But that's alright, cause I was kinda prepared to hear I had to get a new game. Thanks, man. :)

Goodness, it seems like every Pokémon game has a glitch that screws up the game! Good luck with buying a new one. Mebe you're still within warranty.

You can probably go back to the store you bought it at, show them how screwed up it is, and get a replacement. Especially since it's been less than a week. They usually give you 30 days to return defective stuff.

Well, that's kinda the problem... I didn't buy it from a store, I bought it from a private person who sold in on the internet. Since the game haden't been released in Sweden yet I didn't have much of a choice, except waiting, but I had already waited long enough.

Well there you go. You should've imported it from a store website rather than bought it from a single person.

A quick Google search illustrates how easy it is to find Worldwide shippers. Even though they don't do returns the chances of it working properly are way higher.

Well, everyone makes mistakes. ^^'
I'm going to wait till the game is released in my country till I go buy myself a new one, I heard it's coming out in early July so it won't be too long anyway.

Check the back of the book to see if it has some kind of Warenty, you might as well TRY to get a replacement from Nintendo. They are usually good about these things.

Nothing ventured nothing gained.
