Pieces of a TBS
« on: March 07, 2008, 03:27:36 AM »
Hello, I posted this on Gamingw.net and don't know if I posted any here.  I haven't been here for a long time - I thought it was dead.

I noticed someone had posted something about a TBS but has had trouble with the movement system.  The Dajisktra Movement demo, is an accurate way of calculating shortest path, it was even designed to find the most accurate and shortest path on varying terrain as shown in Third Dimension.  They were all meant to combine together into one 3d like TBS - with ABS-like features.

The Dajisktra Movement - will soon come out with another version for just simple flat maps, thus it will be 10x faster.  Remember hit "1" to start the engine.

The Line of Sight is super laggy someone want to fix that, be my guest my computer is too fast now for me to tell.

Anyways I did these a while ago and right now feel lazy to figure out how they work, in order for me to get back in there.

Third Dimension:
Keys: Directional Keys and Space Bar
Description: representing and interacting with a 3d environment in a 2d plane.

Dajisktra Movement:
Keys: Directional Keys, Space Bar, Press 1 to start engine.
Description: the standard way of moving in a Tactical Turn Based Strategy.

Line of Sight:
Keys: None, just when editing, move the character and target around each other.
Description: drawing a perfect line of coordinates from player to character, to represent sight as well as path of bullets, arrows, shuriken, poop.  If you ever wanted to include stealth elements to a game, the simple line is key, yet much more complicated then you would think.
