Fan games over original games?
« on: July 09, 2005, 01:35:31 PM »
ok, I have a question for everyone. Why do fan games get the most attention? whilt original ones are left untouched?

the way i see it, people who continually make fan games about final fantasy and harvest moon have no real imagination -_-''
I wouldnt mind A tales fan game, because that is rarely done, but the amount of uncreative people sickens me.

Most original games are coming to a halt because all of the attention is going to some stupid fan game. it has come to the point where I can confidently say that one day charas will be overrun with fan games -_- .

Please post your views on this matter.

Dragonium, you and I are two of the people who constantly have requests and such ignored because people spend thier time with fan games.

We had this discussion already, didn't we?
It depends on the game owner's talent not on the if the game is a fan game or not.

Leave?

And of course, custom games take more work. But I've seen fan games that look way batter than some original games. All I can say to that is: I'm sorry they wasted time on someone else's storyline, characters, and basic plot.

I hate fan games. If they get the most help it's because the ressources for them are all over the net.

All fan games should be trashed in dumps....but people make what they want...even if it's not original at all...

Amen.

The only difference from a fan game and an original, is that the storyline is set, and that'd only if you plan to follow the storyline. That's a true fan game; one that follows the story of another story. There's a word thought I can't remember what it was for the other type of fan games..

You are not thinking big; because, that,s one big lie. Maybe for final fantasy games, which are prolly the most overated, but I have yet to see a hell of other resources for a lot of things.

And people are fan of gaming, fan of their favorite stories, fan of their favorite things; it's fluently normal to want to do it your way.

Yes, original games should get a bit more respect, but by the fact of a game being a fan game it does not mean it can/needs to be trashed, because you don't know how it will turn out.

If you can play it, and really believe it wasted it's time, then you can prove it to yourself, then you can go buggin' with your words.

Now if you simply dislike fan games and won't give them chance shut it, cuz that's a static opinion and it won't change

Some whining is unreasonable at times.

I never said I wasn't giving them a chance. Some people don't, but I always check how it turns out.

As far as resources are concerned, Final Fantasy must be one of the serie that gets the most fan games and ressources are everywhere. Other games that get fan games don't have many ressources because they probably aren't as popular as Final Fantasy.

I like the concwpt of an original game more than a fan game, but when it comes down to it, I'll judge by how good a fan game is. Most fan games do in fact suck because they are done by 12 years olds wanting to make DBZ or FF.

I still don't get why people need others to pay attention to their games. Does it actually affect your game making ability in the slightest?

You'll get your praise when the game is done.

As for fan games, why on Earth are you complaining? Isn't rpgmaker about having fun? If people have more fun making fangames, then so be it.
