It's true. The oil PC idea has been done, although it's not for your average bear.

No, Omega Weapon will not "get over it." If you were sitting on a tack, no one would tell you to keep sitting and "get over it." Omega Weapon has things at his disposal which can add a great amount of convenience to his personal computing.

Totally agree. I mean, listen to a CD for God's sake. It's, what, four decibles? At the most? All the extra effort for  what? A somewhat silenter computer? I feel it's not worth it.

Can people calm down please?

I'm interested in this.

I have managed to replace a lot of my USB ports with gold plated pins. I'm convinced that this has improved performance and drop outs.

I'm concerned that my PC will be unable to work within a dual atmosphere - as in oil and air. How will the two still be connected?

When one uses strawmen such as that, yes, it does not seem worth it. But genteman ah ha! we have the added benefit of not having to clean the case!   :smoke:

Yes apologies if tempers flared.

The motherboard is submerged along with all peripherals. Components such as the HDD, CDROM and power supply are not submerged. The normal cabling connects them.

Agreed. If it bothers you as much as sitting on a tack, get quit fans. Unless you know exactly what you're doing, you're just going to mess up your computer. You'll need to buy parts anyway, you'll need something to move the oil around, if the oil just sits there, the cpu will get so hot it'll fry itself. If oil is an insulator, it'll trap heat, and if you're trapping heat around a part, its not good. So yeah, you'll need to buy parts anyway, if you're just looking for a cheap way out, dumping your computer in oil isn't a good way to go.

If you really don't want fans, look around on newegg.com to see if they have any alternitive cooling systems besides fans. But don't try to make something on your own.

But you know, if you had a back up crappy computer, you could test it out on that. If anything goes wrong or if it doesn't work, it won't be that big of a deal that the computer died.

Hell Yeah! Just recovered all my old rm2k/3 games from my 10 year old, broken laptop hard drive that had been formatted and had a new OS installed on it. Oh, and I did all of this from my phone. WIN

I'd rather my near silent fan computer than a smelly greasy lard computer.

Unbelieveable!

I've got a Dell 5100, I'm going to try this over the Easter Weekend.

What an excellent idea. The fan annoys me late at night.

Not to sound offensive at all, but you don't happen to have one of those weird diseases where the slightest things bother you, or like hearing like a dog, do you?

I do have certain routines during my day, but we all have those.

0.o I don't think I've ever done that! In literally years! More proof that it's too much work for not enough reward.
