Huh... I liked CC prolly better then all I've played. I played it so much... even though there was almost no story... it was just randomly running around.

Must say though, there was one level I find hilarious. Big Guy is hungry... GO KILL 'IM!

2: FF8 (More realistic, and the relation between Rinoa and Squall was heartbreaking :( The story impact on this one was far greater than FF7, if you don't count the apocaliptic feel in FF7 with Sephiroth/meteo and stuff. And junction rules!)

3: FF5 (Loved it. even though the story was a bit cliche, the system was frikkin awesome. It was, unless you count FF1/FF3, the birth of the class system that was used in FFT and FFTA, which I love. Exdeath was amazing, even if he was a cliche as ancient evil awakened again, and his 1st henchman, Gilgamesh is one o my alltime favourite characters - great music theme also)

Other parts were great, but none really I love as the 3 I mentioned above. Had a great time playing FFX, and FF6, but never got into FF9 at all :P

Don't mind the typos, I'm drinkin BEER!

Except for number one, I have to agree with most of it.
I'd like to play FFCC someday also.

That was my perspective from a player. My perspective from a designer is waaay more derogatory.

And what I meant by that is that no one who will bother commenting on your games will play it. What usually happens is some random guy dls it, plays it for a bit then trashes it. People who make RPGs have seen it over and over and over. In one month, over 10 games that have the same plot are "showed off" in our games forum alone. Gaming World, etc. is waaaay worse. FF fan games are too cliché, too overused and, frankly, its a waste of time. Good RM2k RPGs have you learn something by the end of the game. Whether its a moral, or some snippet of programming advice or whatever, fan games based off of the same plot as the game they pay tribute have NOTHING you learn. It's not even fun playing FF fan games. The map design cannot compare at all with an F graphics engine. Even the older FF's have a better design than can be replicated by RM2k. Not sayinghtat poeple haven't come up with better mapping than a lot of commercial games, just you will never get the same feel an an FF with RM2k.

I like FFIV, the story was interesting.  The music was cool.
The graphics were awesome (I like their style, wanna fight about it?)
Other than that I have no explanation.  Maybe subliminal messages or something.

For all you people talking about certain FF games being cliché, you have to remember something.  Not only did these games come out before the numerous clichés, but they MADE THE CLICHÉS!  If square(soft/-enix) didn't choose things like crystals and swords for there games, they wouldn't be cliché.  If instead, the hero was a chick with a bow, and she was trying to save the world from a plague or something.  Natural disasters would be the cliché, not collecting/activating mystical objects to stop a really old bad guy.

Final Fantasy 6, I felt that it's unique story line never focused too hard on one character and by the end of the game you loved everyone in you team equally. I also like the villan much more. Kefka was scarier than any other boss in my mind. I remember when I was little, and I heard that 8-bit laugh of his, that was scarier than anything. I also like how all of the characters had moves that only they could get, and if there life was low enough, they could do something that looks like a limit break. The only thing was it happend randomly, so I've only seen Shadow's, and Sabin's. Anyways, thats why I like FF6 the best.

FF9 (cool scenes, I like how they had war and mass distruction, story was pretty good, it aways kept you guessing what was going to happen next. Unlike other games where the events just lead into eachother, this game was all connected. Had a lot of side quest with the chocobos and such.)
FFT
FF8 (I loved it besides the leveling up system and the draw system, I would rather level up normally and actually learn skills instead of stealing them. The airship was uber cool)
FF5 (I don't know why, but I found it really enjoyable).
FF6
FF4
FF7 (the more I play it, the less I like it. The plot is basically based on your following someone around the whole game. The characters aren't unique at all, they can all learn the same skills and eveyrthing. Battle wise, the only real differance between chars was their limit break and weapon)
FF1
FF3
FF10
FF2
FF10-2
FFTA
FF11 (haven't played it cuz I don't have a good enough internet connection and I refuse to pay for a game then pay extra to play it, I wish they made it playable offline as well like the diablo games were and such).

Yes - I'd imagine you can buy them, or if not, I'm sure you could download them.

No - well its up to you, but while FF1 is a classic, it has no real story, ok graphics (if you get the psx version), nice music, not too interesting gameplay. The games aren't related in any way, other than name and being made by the same company.

I ve read this thread and you all went into alot of details and stuff but no one has talked about the games as a group of games

i dont mean to bother no one but I dont like most final fantasy for a bunch of reasons. the musics good and some of the mythology in the story but I only like whats original. I played final fantasy 2 and 3 and 7 american versions and the basic like the villains and magic were good and original ideas but theres waaay too much ripped off stories and myths made up in real life and not only that, they keep using alot of the same stuff over and over. when I read about one I didnt play they talk about finding excalibur this and crystal that and im like wtf??? i did that last game.

Final fantasy 7 had good graphics but it was too hyped up. I like the oldschool one Final fantasy 2 better because it didnt have like people with swords fighting people with guns. that makes no sense.

You can like them and all but I like games that seem real like dragon warrior because there are no guns or big companies or anything like that. Those games seem more real to me

i didnt play any of the others but thats my opinion.

peace  ::)

The GBA remakes of 1 and 2 are pretty damn easy. >_< I've never played the original NES versions, but from what I've heard, they are a lot more difficult than the remakes.
The Playstation remakes are harder than the GBA ones, but the GBA ones have more extras.

Hmm, well I don't know by unoriginality if you mean the game plots as in finding crystals or as in unorigiality as in related to real life myths.

But anyway, back when FF used the crystal idea,  that was still a semi original concept and it was kinda ff's trademark theme for a while. So I don't consider FF games unoriginal for that aspect. When new games use the idea of crystals or something like them, I consider that unoriginal.

As for the myths and legends, the only real simularities are the summon names. Those are just names though, and the actual summons don't have the same story as the legends they're named after.

I hear a lot of my english teachers and well just a lot of people always say that while stories need to be original, they need to tie in with real life ideas. I think FF games just tie into some ideas presented in real life legends to enhance their games. Since they don't really base their games on the legends/myths themselves, I don't consider them to be unoriginal because of it.

I agree with your opinions on FF7 though. You should try playing FF8, 9, or FFT. I think they were much better games.

If you're just starting Final Fantasy, I recommend from 5-10... X-2 might turn you off the series unfortunately...

Final Fantasy 1 and 2 (non-gba versions) ARE challenging (FF2 especially), possibly too hard if you're starting.

One of the things I like about the Final Fantasies is that they have so many sidequests and secret bosses... I like my hidden challenges... some games have a few secret bosses, but the bosses tend to be weaklings. Not the case in Star Ocean: Till the End of Time...

FF1 - No secret bosses (non-gba version)
FF2 - No secret bosses (non-gba version)
FF4 - Asura (Easy-Medium), Bahamut (Medium)
FF5 - Omega (Medium), Shinryu (Medium)
FF6 - The Eight Dragons (Easy-Medium)
FF7 - Ultimate WEAPON (Easy), Emerald WEAPON (Hard), Ruby WEAPON (Hard), Lost Number... I guess (Easy)
FF8 - Ultima Weapon (Medium), Omega Weapon (Hard)
FF9 - Hades (Medium), Ozma (Very Hard-Extremely Hard)
FFX - Dark Valefor (Medium-Hard), Dark Ifrit (Medium), Dark Ixion (Hard), Dark Shiva (Hard), Dark Bahamut (Very Hard), Dark Yojimbo (Hard), Dark Anima (Hard-Very Hard), Dark Magus Sisters (Very Hard-Extremely Hard), Penance (Extremely Hard), Nemesis (Hard)
FFX-2 - They're all fairly simple, with the exception of Paragon (Medium) and Trema (Medium-Hard)...

Well, those are my opinions on them anyway. The Dark Aeons are considerably harder than most of the others, but I've tried to keep more or less the same scale throughout. There is a big difference between Medium and Hard, as there is between Hard and Very Hard. The other differences not so big.

FF12 is supposed to be amazing. Hopefully there will be lots of lovely secret bosses... though harder than Penance means I may just die... took me bloody ages to beat him. Without Zanmato -- I'm not cheap.
