Whats with all the remakes!?
« on: June 09, 2006, 08:14:06 PM »
I blame it on the current generation. :P Not really, but I don't recall these lame remakes when I was growing up.

It seems not one person can come up with a unique, original idea.

To what am I referring? Why movies, music, even cars! Just today I've heard The Buzz play two LOUSY remakes of older, decent songs. Apparently someone decided to 'rock out' an old song rather than write their own suckass music. The drummer was spazzing out, I imagine the guitar player's hands were bleeding, all because they felt the song was better if they upped the tempo by 150 and played 32nd notes. I'm not much of a fan of artists using peices of 80s music, or an entire song, as background music for their work.

Then you have the movies that are, again, remakes of older movies or converted from old TV shows or comics. Who really thought the world needed an Elektra, Ultraviolet, Hulk, Daredevil, Fantastic Four, or Hellboy? Xmen? I think 3 is enough. We don't need a Wolverine, Magneto, Storm, or Jubilee spinoff. Though, I'd like to think that Spiderman and XMen are the exceptions as they are the only ones which people have bothered to do right.

Don't get me wrong, there are some things that deserve or need a remake. I think Superman has been a long time coming. War of the Worlds was made so long ago, the remake was a good way to introduce it to the newer generations.

So what am I saying? I think its time to see something new. A remake or cover is nice now and then, if done with restraint, and when done is done by the right person.

Movies are unappealing to me and music all sounds the same, as if made off a template or MadLibs, or perhaps put together by manitees. They're either remakes or crappy sequels

Well it seems its up to (the tail end of?) my generation to pick up the slack. Heres to the hope of original entertainment.

I should admit that even some of the groups I've listen to have resorted to covers. Ra did a cover of Every Little Thing (The Police), and Lost Prophets it seems has made a cover of Cry Me a River (Timberlake) of all songs.

That's the reason, because they can make a quick buck.

I don't mind remakes if they're done right. Bad remakes piss me off, but then again. Bad songs, games or movies piss me off so it's on the same level.

Remakes draw attention to the original most of the times too. Which is good.

Batman Begins is a great remake. I really hope they make more of those. Spiderman and X-Men are meh in comparison.

Batman Begiuns isnt really a remake. Its like its own movie.

Imagine the day when they make remakes of remakes of remakes? Or "Cartoon Networl: The Movie".

Not something on The Super Mario Bros., but on the Resident Evil movies.

I am thinking about becoming a director, cause well... movies is what I love for. Most of you know that. I love movies and I find that some aren't done good enough. If I do go after this and become a director, I'm going to try to make a remake of the RE movies. This time, done like the game. Thus making it a scare-horror and not an action-flick.

Yes, I wanna be something like Rob Zombie later. A bitching bastard with great music who loves horror movies and makes them too.

Well, remakes can be split up into two categories:
Remakes made with respect of the original that're done to bring the original back on the agenda. (good)
Remakes made for easy money by ppl that can't come up with anything on their own. (must strangle)

I wouldn't say that I'm against remakes but I would say that I'm against the last kind of remakes.

The Offspring: "Hey, hey do that brand new thing!" Tá-dá!

Hm, I donīt really care yīknow...itīs been a while since Iīve noticed that people are having dificulties to make new things, specially in the RPG area.

I canīt ask for much, cause I donīt have many original ideas also...I think people should work more with the future and fiction, because Itīs getting harder and harder to make new medieval theme stories. The future doesnīt exist, so it can be anything!

Thatīs why I like Metal Gear, FF7, Fallout (YEAH!!), Xenostuff, etc...
