Moving the storyline to mars sounds like a good idea!
You can it so that they discover a whole ancient civillization that existed on mars ages ago.
Try combining "the beast" with that idea somehow too...

Why are things always on Mars? Why not Saturn or Uranus?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Saturn and Uranus are pretty much just balls of gas. I mean, if you like living on highly flamable gas, be my guest.

Jupiter is a ball of gas as well. :p I guess you could say Mercury or Venus for a change, but I personally don't care what planet it's on, even if it's made up.

Anyway, great idea Neb! This sounds like it could be a really cool game! I agree with what Tomi said earlier about the minigame. That sounds cool.   I think other minigames could work out well in a situation like this. It makes me think a Resident Evil 4 style button system with the climbing and such would be suitable for this too, if you could do that.

I don't have any other suggestions really. Good luck with this project! I'd love to play it.

You can't really live on Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, or Jupiter. Life would be rather hard on pluto, but you could give it a try. How about that tenth planet? I'm pretty sure it's terestrial and not jovian.

Mercury- Too close to the sun
Venus- Titanium alloy melting acid rain
Earth- Nice in cozy
Mars- Shows fossils that seem to create a similar environment to Earth
Jupiter- Gas
Saturn- Gas
Uranus- (Hee hee) I believe is a solid, but is mostly gas
Neptune- Same as Uranus
Pluto- Too far away from sun

You should make the senior explorer an older guy. Like mid 60's and hes the expert. Maybe when they find the thing he's like flabberghasted because he knows something, but something happens to him before he can share it. That would add to the mystery.

Ah, what a great idea. This reminds me of a book I read that might give you some ideas.

Its called the ancient enmeny.

Its about this prehistoric being which lived underground and only came up every few thousand years to eat.

It starts when two sisters return home to find that everyone seems to be missing. They go to there house and finds that the doors and the phones out. The oldest sisters maid seems to have died while making dinner. They exept there to be some phyco killer in there house so they go next door to use the phone and call the police. When they get there theres dinner on the table and chairs on the floor. Theres no blood so they expect them to all be kidnapped.

(Fast forward.) They go to a police station. They find slugs on the ground but no bullets, so whatever was there was hit. But theres no blood! They find that the radio in the police station works so they call the police of another town.

(Fast forward even more. Mind you this is a very scary book.)
When they police arrive they decide to stay in the police station overnight and search for bodys the next day. They find bodies alright. But there not normal bodies so they expect them to be infected by some type of disease! (I think this is a good idea for your game.)

Later they find the truth! The ancient enemy is really just a HUGE blob that lives under the whole city so it can get anyone, anytime by going through vents etc. But what makes it so deadly is because when it eats a human it gains the knowledge of that human and can use that humans imagination to transform into anything it wants.

In the end they killed it by calling these scientist when they thought it was some type of disease. But when they learned the truth (after like 7 people died) they made this germ that ate away at the thing until it diead. (they didnt actually make the germ...they had to phone for it using a type of code so the ancient enemy couldnt know what they were talking about)

This book is baced of true facts. Like they explain mass dissapearneces. Bermuda triangle, missing ships, missing towns. etc. (The ancient enemy isn't real...or is it? ;))

ANYWAY great book. You should all read it. I hope all that long gabbering helps.
