"Where does that crack come from..." asked Anyan to himself, not noticing the duel close to him. He just kept sorrounding the place in silence, as he reached the crack...

Suddenly, he slipped, and fell to the ground. The land was slippery, so Anyan started to turn around and around, until he fell into the floor, having a sight of what was going on at last:

"Shell...?!" asked Anyan to himself, as he saw the man with the huge staff almost hitting Alziel, who rolled to prevent the hit.

Anyan stood up. He wanted to help. But he couldn't... it was a matter of warriors before anything, before any mission he had.

Anyan then felt something behind his head... his sight became blurry. He touched the back of his head...

Blood...? Yes, it was. Anyan saw a rock next to him, barnished in it... it was a slight cut behind his head, not enough to kill him, but enough to leave out for a while.

What could he do? How could he help Alziel without putting himself in the middle of a duel...?

The shield... bronze- made, and barnished with the colours of his family, painted by himself.

"I have to aim good... I will not help in a fair battle... but Alziel has no weapon for now..." he thought. As he took the shield, spinned fast and threw it towards Alziel's position.

The shield fell next to the mud, really close to Alziel, making a loud noise.

Anyan smiled, and dropped to the floor, falling unconscious.

OOC: I don't know...... Maybe you want to use the frog. If you don't, leave it and I'll take it back XD.

BIC
Ragnar watched the horizon......He had gained better sight in darkness.

Suddenly, a strange feeling hit Ragnar.

"Saine" Ragnar said.
Saine looked his way.

"Something's going on" Ragnar started to get into the forest.
"I'm going to look for the others. No one will see me in this darkness. stay in camp, will ya?"

Without expecting any answer, Ragnar entered the forest.

The darkness was terribly thick..... but Ragnar's sight and hearing was good. Ragnar moved slowly and stealthy. Not even the trees knew he was there.

Ragnar tried to follow Anyan's tracks. But he had never done that, so he quickly lost track. Right when he was about to turn around, Ragnar heard a noise.

"What's that?" He thought, and the noise repeated.

Ragnar slowly aproached the noise, that was getting clearer as he got close. It was an axeman-like noise at first, but as he got closer, Ragnar realized that the noises were hits. Someone was hitting a piece of wood against something... Or another someone.

Ragnar stepped on a small branch, that made a loud sound.
He cursed quietly, and staye mortally still without breathing, trying to see if someone had heard him.

Ragnar was so concentrated that he didn't realize when the frog got out of his clothes, and started to jump towards the noise....

Alziel reeled. Shell's attacks were growing more and more desperate, but no less aggressive.

He could act upon reflex and instinct, roll and jump out of the way, but he was collecting more and more injuries. There was no pain, and he could not summon the conscious though to ask why. The fingers of his right hand were bruised, probably broken. The ribs of his left side were similarly ruined, and he struggled to breathe. Every so often he would earn another strike from Shell's relentless attack.

He stumbled back again, taking Shell's attack in his right hand, oblivious to the pain and the damage it would cause him. He no longer felt the effects for more than a few second; whatever it was that affected his mind dulled his senses.

Something shimmered in the mud, and Alziel stopped to think with difficulty what it could be. As he finally decided that it was Anyan's shield, Shell had come in close, and made another terrifying swing which Alziel barely avoided. He stooped to pick up the shield, and raised it clumsily in front of him.

Shell stopped as he saw Alziel raise the shield. He too was growing tired from the battle, though much more slowly than Alziel. After a second to catch his breath, he came forward again. He made another attack, which Alziel took in his left hand this time, feeling the pain across his palm, and managed to get in close under Shell's guard.

Shell, frustrated, attempted to beat off Alziel with the staff, who caught a weak, tired hold of the weapon, and, for the time being, both fought wearily for it in the centre of the clearing.

Finally, Shell managed to wrench the weapon back, and, in doing so, struck Alziel hard again in his left side.

Alziel cried out and fell hard into the mud. A red curtain was swimming before his eyes, and the pain was immense. This time, the numbness of thought did not block it out. He felt nauseous, and breathless, and there was the tang of blood in his throat. He lay back, no longer strong enough to support himself. Shell came forward and stood over him, without moving.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw someone moving from the trees, coming to his rescue, but in the dark he could not see who.

He could no longer think. He gave up in his fight for consciousness.

His last thought was of Liara.

Abell Clung to a branch as her beast jerked out from underneath her, And watched arms folded over a limb, as her reptilian steed darted from their vantage to the space that the attacker was occupying. With talons unsheathed, the beast tore a substancial chunk of flesh from Shells shoulders, and was then pinned down by the beasts weight as it proceeded to make sharp pecking attacks at shells head....which were dodged by swift movements on shells behalf.

Abell was suddenly very concerned. Her steed was trained only to attack the vile. Abominations against nature. It only would attack without direction from abell if it were truly a creature of vile origin. This was not an ordinary foe, and Alzeil was unfairly matched. Abells eyes could not see this, which suprised her slightly.

With a heave of the arms and a fierce cry, shells body heaved the attacking reptile off of his body. A feat that should not have been doable with the musscle damage from the talons. Abell dangled high in the tree....to high to safely jump down, and the reptile, before it could be mortally wounded, skittered back into the trees opposite of Abells Vantage.

Abell could see the underbrush rustling. There were others around. And possibly noy Anyan or the sprite.

"Why would he wander off out of sorts....if not to be answering the call of a summons to fair battle" Abell wondered to herself.

The reptile was shreiking in the trees, calling for aid, and alarming other intruders. From one direction it came, followed by a flutter of Brush and the another shreik from another direction.

Alzeil, however, lay bruised and injured on the ground, struggling to breathe.
This was a precarious situation indeed.

"Who is this attacker. Alzeil seemed to be familiar with its body." Abell wondered to herself out loud.

Saine's ears twitched as he heard a cry of pain permeate the relative silence of the swamps.  Then, the marsh fell silent again.  Only a moment later, squawking sounds came from the thick of the trees, again interrupting the eery quiet.  Finally, silence descended again.  Saine noticed for the first time that the crickets had fallen silent.

He stood, looking in the direction of the sounds.  As he tried to discern their origin, Saine felt that presence again.  It was faint, but... it was there.  However, there was nothing to be done about it.  Someone had to stay by the camp.  The others' things were here, and the swamp would prove a traitor to them somehow.  With a resigned sigh and a sinking feeling in his stomach, Saine sat back down on the log, staring blankly at the foliage beyond the fire.

What the hell was that all about? he thought disconcertedly.

OCC: Sorry, long post :p

Anyan's eyes opened with a cry of pain...

"Wha..." said Anyan, standing with difficulties...

He could barely stay on his feet. He cursed himself for his clumsy moves, which led his head against that rock.

His sight was blurry, and his steps ackward. Anyan walked through a single road, as if he was drunk. Suddenly, the bushes before him started to move.

"That's no effect of the wound..." he thought. His head hurt and he could see almost no thing, but he managed to draw the Viper without cutting himself.

Anyan walked towards that bush, not realizing that he was actually sorrounding the place were the duel between Shell and Alziel was happening.

Inside the bush, two voices came out.

"He's almost done... let's get him..." said one voice.

Anyan wanted to hear no more, he entered the bush almost triping to see who it was.

Two men, dressed in black hoods, with bows and short swords were in there.

"The resurrector...!" said one.

Anyan asked no question, and with difficulties, he stabbed one of them in the stomach. Then he engaged the other one.

Since he could not stand too good, Anyan couldn't give a single cut to the man, who was almost laughing at him. Tripping, and falling over and over, beside the trees, Anyan had serious difficulties.

"Time to end this..." said the man, as he got the bow out. Anyan screamed in a moment of desperation and charged with all of his strenght.

The man was  dead now, Anyan had stabbed his chest. Byut he could not prevent the man's arrow from leaving the bow.

Luckily, the arrow hit Anyan's leg only, so it was not mortal, but he cursed again.

"What now...?!" he said. Another arrow came from behind and hit his other leg.

The man Anyan had stabbed in the stomach managed to survive a little bit before the poison took care of him.

Anyan took both arrows from his legs. He could still walk, but felt too ridicoulous...

"DARN IT!" he screamed. He didn't mind about himself, he started to walk (as he could, holding himself from the trees) towards Alziel's position again.

"Liara, were are you..." he thought, in desperation.

Everything had happened so quickly, and a bewildered Liara found herself at the battle scene completely unaware of her surroundings. A badly injured man had staggered to his feet and was battling against Abell's steed- When did they arrive? Liara had been flying forward so frantically that she hadn't noticed. And who was the man? A terrible aura came off of him, but his appearance... Was it Shell?

The sprite span round and spotted Alziel on the ground. He looked dead.

The swamp was alive with activity suddenly. Shell swung the staff at Abell's steed, which responded with a slash of it's talons. Abell moved towards the battlefield, now a circular clearing due to the violent battle which had uprooted and split dead trees, and Anyan appeared at the other end, shocked at the scene before him and swaying from side to side. He looked injured.

Liara ran past the fight and knelt at Alziel's body. He was alive- her previous confusion had clouded her judgement. She glanced around wildly at Abell and Anyan, who appeared to be standing and gawking.
"Help me!" She cried. "Anyan! Alziel's injured! I need some time to heal him or he might not make it!"

Anyan nodded and turned towards Shell as he flung the creature aside and roared at the newcomers. All of them had to die.

Ragnar heard Liara's call clearly.
"Damn!! this is no time to be sitting in the dark!" He thought.

Ragnar got up and runned towards the battlefield.
When he got to the clearing, he realized a dreadful fact.

He has left all the bolts of his crossbow in the camp. He only had one shot!

"Oh, S***!!!" Ragnar yelled without realizing "My ammo!!!"

"Old man?!?! What are you doing here?!?!" Anyan said, while preparing his sword.

"I'm trying to get you kids out of trouble..... but I seem to be in problems myself!" Ragnar answered, while taking up his crossbow.

Ragnar fired against the attacker (Without even taking a second to try to know what/who it was), with acurracy like always.
But Shell jumped back, and the bolt passed by and hit a tree.
Shell seemed surprised by the number of enemies, and hesitated.

"Damn!! This isn't my night!" Ragnar thought.

He runned towards Liara, only to find her on her knees... with a really bad hurt Alziel.

"Oh, boy......." Ragnar thought. He left the crossbow next to them, and took out his blades. Then, he spoke to Liara "I don't want to die here, but that's what will happen if I go against that thing. Cure Alziel! then, we'll see what we do."

Ragnar looked back.
The creature was attacking Anyan again with the staff...... And Anyan was defending himself as he could.

"I cannot... hurt him..." thought Anyan.

Shell charged against him over and over, as Liara tried to heal Alziel and Ragnar was beside her. Abell's steed tried to attack again, but was thorwn back by Shell's overwhelming strenght.

Anyan had drawn the Viper and had rejected Shell's staff as he could- falling over and over, barely standing.

Suddenly, Anyan spotted his shield on the ground... Alziel couldn't use it too much.

Anyan tried to get close to it, receiving Shell's berserk attacks with his sword, with a nice technique for being this injured. Anyan tripped again, and fell beside his shield. Shell attacked...

But Anyan picked the shield fast and stopped Shell again, throwing him back with it. Shell couldn't stand well also, because of his wounds in his talons, and the fight was desperate.

The Viper's edge could kill any man with just a slice... but Shell... he wasn't himself.

"I have to know what is happening to you..." thought Anyan, as he saved the viper on his sheath...

Liara was attempting to heal Alziel, but she was a witness of this action, and she couldn't help to be surprised...

Anyan put his hands up, with his shield on the leaft one. Now he was fighting Shell, only trying to knock him down... but suddenly, his wound on the back of the head started to bother again... and his legs weren't the same- thanks to those black-hooded archers.

Shell wasn't himself, he was acting like almost an animal...

But suddenly, he was tired too.

The staff hit the bronke shield again, but this time, Anyan answered, magaging to hit Shell's chest with a brutal front attack with the shield...

Both men fell on the ground, one due to the attack, the other, because of his wounds.

Anyan felt his eyes failing to him... but he couldn't die. Not now. But he could barely stand...

Shell writhed in the dirt and tried to get up. Anyan was so close, close enough to kill. He had to die.

At that moment, a tiny creature hopped onto Shell's leg. Beautiful, leaf green. It's delicate Throat throbbed in a puzzled sort of way. Shell tried to crush it, but stayed his hand and dropped the stone to the ground.

With the last of his energy, he began to cry.

Anyan knelt beside shell, holding his shield tightly. He was a bit blinded by the battle...

He had to stand up... to fight.

His legs weren't answering too good... but he stood, almost falling again, but he stood.

His enemy, although he was not wanted as that, was before him, kneeling. Because of the pain? He didn't mind. Anyan took his shield with both hands, and rose it over his head.

He would strike Shell with it and make him fall unconscious...

Then, Anyan had a clear sight of Shell's face...

He was crying...

And over his legs, there was a frog... a frog that Ragnar had in his care until that moment...

Anyan knelt, letting his shield fall. He was dropping his guard. But he felt that Shell was himself... he didn't know, perhaps he was taking an unnecessary risk...

But he just knelt, silent, and paralyzed from the pain...

Alziel wondered for a moment where he was.

He opened his eyes, and there was a white ceiling above him. It was so strange to him that he sat up sharply, and looked around him. It was a large building, of grand architecture. There were four walls of white marble, held up by similar white pillars, and all its surfaces were covered in ornate carvings, of beautiful women and horses.

He was sat upon a slab of black marble, which was surrounded by white flowers. He looked around himself confusedly for a moment, before noticing the man sat next to him.

"Hello there Alziel", Leyland said with a smirk.

Leyland was a handsome rogue on the rare occasions that he removed his hood. He was older than Alziel, and his looks were much more weathered, but still he was charming. His eyes were brown, almond-shaped, surrounded by tiny wrinkles, and he had a long, straight nose that had been broken in a few bar fights. His hair was a dark blonde and he had a layer of stubble on his square chin.

Alziel smiled. It was good to see his friend again.

"I must say you've got yourself into a bit of a mess, Alziel", he smiled. "Not your fault though. That is some power good old Shell's got himself. Got my old hunting knife to keep you company though, eh?"

Alziel reached into his coat and realised he had lost the knife.

"I see", Leyland said. He was still smiling. "Oh well. Never liked that one anyway".

There was a gentle breeze, and Alziel could hear gentle song from a long way away. Leyland leaned forward and nudged his arm.

"Hold on Alziel", he said softly. "It's not your time yet. Nor is it Shell's".

Alziel felt himself being lifted, the room began to swim, and before he could look twice at Leyland he was awake. The pain in his ribs was unbearable, and after one look at Shell, who now stood crying in the centre of the clearing, his frog in his hand.

Alziel considered Leyland's final words as he fell back into unconsciousness.

Alziel opened his eyes for a couple of seconds and then closed them again, but it was all Liara needed. She hugged him in the way only a sprite could hug, without disturbing a single broken bone and still conveying all the warmth and relief that had welled up inside her.

"You're gonna be okay" she smiled sadly. "Don't ever do that again, okay?"

As Shell cried his last tear and fell asleep, exhausted from whatever magic he had weilded, the other party members cautiously approached the clearing. Liara was still healing Alziel and Anyan lay, energy spent but glory intact.

"We can't move any of them" Ragnar stated. He began to make a new fire. "We'll wait for them to wake up. Then we'll see what happens."
