Differences between IE and Firefox
« on: November 02, 2006, 08:42:37 AM »
Here on Charas

Well first of all, you can access the main page of the forum, and you can create topics too I guess.

But I just noticed that the transparcy on my avatar is only visable when I use FireFox...

Well, are there any other differances that I don´t know about? Please share that information with me then, it would be appreciated.

Internet Explorer doesn't support PNG transparency, FF does.

That's untrue.  Even though I use Firefox now, IE has always displayed transparent PNGs transparently for me.

In my experience, it does not. You're crazy.

You need proof?

Here, it's at another forum where someone said the same as you.  Those pictures which I made are all PNGs.  Feel free to visit that URL to check the file type yourself.  I JPEGed the pic to show I didn't manually remove a background (even though I could've have done that after, which I realised after the fact).  Nevertheless, if you don't believe me, good for you, you must have a crappy version of something.

Dammit, too big.  Here's the link http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i133/daetyrnis/untitled.jpg

I don't really care, maybe they fixed it in more recent editions of IE.. I don't care though.

IE can only support one type of PNG I believe. FF can support em all.

The examples you have shown were all complete transparent PNG files. Partial transparent PNG files use alpha transparency, making some elements less transparent.

I would love to show you an example, but unfortunately my webhost broke.

Okay, here's a good test. Look at the image in the attachment and make a screenshot of it in both browsers. Put both images next to each other, with proof, and post it here.

EDIT: It seems that Internet Explorer 7.0 FINALLY has full PNG support. But that's all to say.
