My extremely weird game idea - Oxygen
« on: September 11, 2007, 09:16:22 PM »
This game is a spinoff from Nether which I am making, it will be in rm2k3 unlike Nether. It will feature some of the characters time-to-time. Anyway, it is basically about the oxygen running out on their home-world. Unlike Nether, having Earth, The netherworld, heaven and hell, this will sport a new place: Womzone.
Womzone is a weird world full of strange creatures. Let's talk about the characters anyway.

Koobi-
Description: Has very spiky long green hair, wears baggy yellow jeans and a red belt, doesn't wear a top. Has lizard-like features. Very cool, carefree personality.

Weapon: Coneblade. I blade that tapers into a point like a cone, it's full of holes like a watering can and can disperse chemicals.

Traits: Pretty average all-round stats.

Afrix-
Description: A strange minotaur-esque monster who carries a rather large laser-gun. Very tough looking, doesn't mess around.

Weapon: Solar-Cannon. A cannon which uses the devastating effects of the suns powers. Even though there are 3 suns in this partical world.

Traits: Very high in HP, low in speed.

(And for the female character... I'm not being sexist! She's not a mage, no! She has weapons like male characters! Omg! First game to ever implement the idea of not being sexist to women!!! Ahem... Anyway...)

Wymio-
Description: Thin, tall, long blue hair. She is quite alien looking, yet takes care of her appearance and looks pretty. Playful, loves nature, can be serious.

Weapon: Orbits. Two metal spheres which float around her. They are made of steel and have strange green cracks of light running through them like circuitry. The can send them flying at a nearby enemy with the flick of a wrist.

Traits: Higher in defense, lower in attack.

All characters learn spells at the same kind of rate, there is no "best mage character".

Anyway, back to storyline. Koobi is entrusted with the Coneblade, he must then water all 10 of the sacred "Cofnaf Plants". That is the aim of the game. When they all bloom (the hottest day of the year is approaching them), the oxygen will be replensihed on the planet, they will have a second chance to start recycling, using less Co2, etc.

Obviously, many enemies stand in the way. Three dark clans all oppose Koobi and try to stop him. They want to keep developing machinery, they can afford oxygen masks and the lot. It doesn't bother them. To them, if the living organisms die down, they don't care, they can make money from robots and other things. They can then go to an alternate world, like the netherworld and start a fresh, rich-as-hell.

This is my basic plot anyway. The levelling system will work so it's quite hard to level up, but you gain lots from it, rather than levelling loads and not caring that much. You will gain "Emblems" which you can equip, level up and then unequip and keep the stats/skills from them. It's hopefully gonna have voice acting for main parts.

I need some clever people now to try and make these character sets for me. I don't know if this is posted in the correct section though :o. I hope it is. If anybody is interested on working on this project with me, just say. i have high-hopes for it and many, many ideas.

P.S. It may sound cartoony, but it will really be quite graphic and violent in parts. It will be aimed at the teenage kind of agegroup.

Hmm... It sounds... different. Different is good, though.
Oh, and you're not the first to not be sexist towards women in a game, my main female character is usually either a fighter, ranger, or thief. :P

dude... gauntlet had a lady barbarian.
FFX2 had payne. theres all kinds of fighter broads in games. In my own project, the lead female character is a mechanic.

Anyways, it sounds... unique. good luck with it. Id have to know more about your other games to make a call on the storyline

if you make this, cool. It a very good idea, rather cliche, the whole hero needs to use special item at ___ number of sacred places to save the world. Not that there is such thing as a completely original story now =/

Sounds pretty fun though!

This game sounds really cool, I love the characters! The story has a cool theme, however I don't like the idea of going to these differant flowers or whatever. My opinion is that if you as a player have to go to 4 or 10 or however many of these objects or locations, you know the basic part of the story up until that point. Like in the final fantasy games where you had to go to the crystal chambers, I knew from the point where I went to the first chamber that I would go to the other three, and thus I knew half the plot already. And my view is that you shouldn't do anything that will lead the player to know half the plot of the game before getting into it, because then the game is a LOT less interesting than it could have been.

Hell Yeah! Just recovered all my old rm2k/3 games from my 10 year old, broken laptop hard drive that had been formatted and had a new OS installed on it. Oh, and I did all of this from my phone. WIN

Mm. I like a lot of your ideas but kinda agree with Dragonblaze.

Maybe do something like the leading oxygen manufacturer, who will lose a lot of buisiness from the plant's watering, destroy some of the plants half way through the game and then the race is on to go to the world where the sacred seeds originated from and get some... and then there can be all sorts of problems getting there and getting the seeds back or something, I dunno. Since you've mentioned multiple worlds it might work.

Also, I'm not a big fan of games with only four characters, but it's your call.

I hate X-2, there was no reason for it to exist. Let's just pretend it doesn't. (No I'm not being sexist, I just didn't like the game as a whole.)
Besides, all three characters in X-2 were female, so the point doesn't really work.

I'd sprite if it weren't for my computer being dumb, but I'd like to help with the game any way I can...

FFX2 was something out of a nightmare. Paine was pretty cool though :p

So yeah, on the subject of females with odd classes, one of my games has a female axe user as the main character.

Okay, I'm on about RPG games by the way. Yes, I know you can sit and think of games that aren't sexist, but I can think of millions of games that are. Baldur's gate, Dragon Quest 8, tonnes of rm2k/3 games off the net, the women are always mages.
Anyway, I'm using charasmatic for charactersets. It's working well, I'm also making the battle animations from the charsets to use in battle. I still need some facesets made, but I'm having a small problem with the battles if anyone could help.
Also, the flower problem, you can't access flowers until you have watered the pre-flower. It's a bit like Zelda, there will be an obstacle stopping you, once you do the area and water the flower, you will gain access to the new place through storyline, use of quest items, secret entrances etc.
Okay, here goes my battle problem: I've used battle animations, not battlesets. When my character attacks, he jumps really high and then smacks downwards on the enemy. Problem is, I can have him attack from where he's stood and hit whatever would be stood 10 yards ahead of him every time. Or have it so he lands on the enemy but attacks from somewhere where he wasn't orignially stood. It looks weird. Any way round this?
