The Netrix
« on: March 26, 2005, 08:59:54 PM »
Well, i came up with the idea for this game about online videogames abouth two years ago (i didn't even had the RPG Maker, i only knew it because of a friend).
Originally, it would have been a matrix-based comedy. But now i changed the first idea a bit. Here's how it goes:

A guy(Carlos, you can pick his name though) goes with some friends to a "cibercafe" (don't know how to say it in english) to play the online game Netrix. There they become characters of games and movies (Like Chrono and Legolas) and fight monsters.
The problem starts when they (and every other user playing Netrix) get caught in the game, unable to get out from it, because of the attack of a strange and bizarre virus. They have to go around the many worlds of the Netrix to destroy th virus and regain freedom. (There's a small mistery about the virus, i'll post about it when i have it worked out). Please vote, tell me what you think. Thanks...

I like it! :D and I have a monster that is perfect for a virus (according to SleepAid it looks like a binary ghost) but neverthe less, I'd help with this game

I will not vote for the story, because I know it very well....

It's the same story like the one of the game "Dot Hack". Only with other names....

Hmm...I've seen something very very similar to this. It also seems very similar to the cartoon called 'Code Lyoko' but I like the idea. I'm looking forward to more details...

Thanks man!!! it wolud be great if you showed me the "virus monster" 'cause i'm having troubles in creating one.
If you need help, just ask me. (Specially if you have problems in creating some complicated events, i'm a rookie but i have a friend with exp. in those things)

It's been done. I really don't like it, it seems too much like a bunch of other games and shows that i've seen/played before. Maybe you just didn't post enough info, but this really does not seem like an original idea at all.

((Before I start, it doesn't look too good if you criticise people when you haven't even reached the 5 post mark yet))

I just wanna say, you say "It's been done". Example: Dot Hack. Yes, it has been done. But Dot Hack was crap. And if Red XIII works hard, this will turn out great. So don't criticise someone's work before they've been working on it a while.

I don't wanna flame or complain about anything, but that's the way it is.

It isn't an original idea. But with a couple of more creative elements, it could turn out to be quite good.

For example, how exactly do they get stuck in the game? Are they wearing virtual reality equipment, like special goggles and gloves, and the virus is disallowing them to take them off? Are their souls actually siphoned out converted into binary code, and inserted into the game (and how does it do that)? Are they just hardcore MMORPG nerds that don't want to get off until they delete the virus? Or what?

How about an "EditCode" system, where the players can edit their source codes to change their status and abilities if used properly. But if an error is made, the player glitches and becomes unable to act or some other bad effect. I think they used this in one of the MMBN games, though I'm not sure.

Yeah. Just try thinking of some original elements that'll make your game want to be played.

Warxe is right. I'm sure I've seen a Windows desktop chipset somewhere. :) Plus there's that Mouse Arrow weapon you did, Warxe. :D

I think that EditCode thing is cool.

How about an "EditCode" system,

I`ll answer to all that:
1- They get stuck because when the virus attacks (I`m thinking on some kind of "surprise attack" that will get everyone in the game offguarded) it steals a number (The ID) that normally acts as a "link" or something like that between the virtual and real world. Without the ID, they can`t get out. As simple as that.

The idea about the "EditCode" System is really good. I'll have to think of something good about that.

About the story, i know it isn't too original... though i don't know the games quoted here. The idea of beeing trapped in a computer is very old. ĦAt least as old as the movie Tron!
But the story has one or two secrets i can't reveal. (Sorry, think of FFVII, you would've hated the one who told you about Aeris)
