Title: Grandy's Doodles
Post by: Grandy on September 16, 2011, 03:57:47 AM
I won't edit the name to be any more obnoxious anymore.

I recently acquired a scanner (as in, just today) so I thought I'd subject the internet (read: Charas) with the things I'd draw in class instead of studying.

The pictures are in no particular order (othet than the order I'd find them flipping the pages, but since my method of doodling consists of opening a random blank page and doing whatever there, it doexn't mean it's the same order as I drew them.) So don't expect to find an evolution of style more than a style that jumps back and forth.

Also, I tried not to rip them out of my book because the other side is still useable, so they may seem... badly scanned, really.

I'll try to add amusing titles for each picture to keep your interest.

Starting simple and existential (If the text is hard to read, it says "I sometimes wonder about our eternal souls... oh, a bite!") (http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/1366/img019mh.jpg)

Saturday Morning (http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/5782/img002fn.jpg)

Who's THIS douchebag? (http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/6461/img003fg.jpg)

Doooooooodling (http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/1859/img004ls.jpg)

The text says: **** this **** I am not finishing this.... or am I? (No. No I wont.) (http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/466/img005oc.jpg)

Ignore the actual bits of studying on the corners. I assure you it does not happen often. (http://img846.imageshack.us/img846/4871/img006gr.jpg)

I am Heavy Owl Guy... and THIS... is my owl. (http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/607/img007fs.jpg)

Three floating heads that bear no resemblance to aged forms of any characters existing ever. (http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/8370/img008t.jpg)

I am not even sure what I did write in that left place there. (http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/5149/img009dk.jpg)

His name is Rinkku. He will rescue Purincesu Zeruda. (http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/699/img010wy.jpg)

I wasnt sure if I should draw a man or a pikachu. I went with both. (http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/7089/img015s.jpg)

By now you must have already realised half of these are Homestuck fandoodles. (http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/2020/img017w.jpg)

Anyone know that feel? (http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/5274/img020ic.jpg)

CG: IMPS. ALWAYS ****ING IMPS. YOU'D THINK THERE WOULD BE SOME SORT OF HIGHER TRUTH TO THIS UNIVERSE THAT DOES NOT INVOLVE FIGHTING IMP AFTER IMP IN THIS ENDLESS GRIND. WELL GUESS WHAT I MADE A UNIVERSE AND NOT THERE IS ****ING NONE (http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/8360/img021g.jpg)

And now he has a cramp in his leg. (http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/9577/img022d.jpg)

Add to the list things I can't drawn: One-handed chainsaws. (other itens on the list are "Hands" and "Everything else in the world") (http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/1462/img023jn.jpg)

A random assortment of characters. (http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/4555/img024zy.jpg)

Oh good I thought we had run out of Homestuck for a second. (http://img641.imageshack.us/img641/2268/img026z.jpg)

Devon looking at his own blood-soaked hands. Floating heads of Misty, Baron von Nastynose and a dude with sunglasses nonwithstanding. (http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/5004/img027c.jpg)

Go home and be family doods. (http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/7987/img028s.jpg)

And make it double. (http://img834.imageshack.us/img834/4618/img032fr.jpg)

....I have rightly no idea. (http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/1271/img033c.jpg)

Kitty! (http://img827.imageshack.us/img827/6634/img034ka.jpg)

Kitties and a bard! (http://img685.imageshack.us/img685/7577/img035pq.jpg)

Was supposed to be a man flying a steampunk jetpack. You tell me if it is. (http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/4469/img036t.jpg)

Generic flirty girl. (http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/8153/img037hy.jpg)

What, did you think I'd forgotten to put more Homestuck? HA! (http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/9083/img038a.jpg)

A random assortment of characters. (http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/5785/img039n.jpg)

This day I forgot my pencil and drawed everything with a pen, unable to erase anything. Here you can see what really goes around my pages before I fix it. (http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/9255/img040m.jpg)

Forgot my pencil part 2 (http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/149/img044z.jpg)

White science! (http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/2720/img041z.jpg)

Later on I remembered Jack Frost looks nothing like that. (http://img853.imageshack.us/img853/2539/img042u.jpg)

With this, I believe I posted all my homestucks. All of them. (http://img542.imageshack.us/img542/5828/img045i.jpg)

And now for the things I am kind of proud of:

Official Grandy Concept Art (http://img840.imageshack.us/img840/6150/img013td.jpg)

Also, remember that time last year when I asked if Grandy should have a pet, which kind of pet he should have, and everyone was like "He should have a bird that he trains to steal things"? Thats his debut right there. It's name is Regis. And well... I kind of tried to base him off of Solid Snake.

Also, Grandy fights the long arms of the Law by using his Long Arms of and Outlaw. I claim it's artistic license and not a mistake.

==>Ascend (http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/7767/img018ux.jpg)

It's hard to represent "Land of Light and Rain" in a pencil sketch.

We just meant she's a friend who happens to be a girl, Goggalor. (http://img542.imageshack.us/img542/7504/pscweb.png)

A naked goddess (no seriously, this drawing turned out to come out looking pretty good and yes she is naked. Click at your own risk.) (http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/7512/img025mt.jpg)

I must've spent more time working on that tree than on my final essay for college. (http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/1483/img031p.jpg)

And a very special guest. (http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/1404/img029mx.jpg)

You have a great style going on here, looks pretty darn good. Have you done anything not doodly? Like attempting soemthing big?

Also, that's a sweet grandy picture.

A naked goddess (no seriously, this drawing turned out to come out looking pretty good and yes she is naked. Click at your own risk.) (http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/7512/img025mt.jpg)

Bluhman! Good special guest.

Nice work.  I like the cartoon network style influences.  They actually kinda work.

Do you do any colouring at all?

Do you do any colouring at all?

I would but I ate all my crayons.

In a more serious tone, I would, but I don't know how to properly in photoshop.

There is no shame in being unable to color in Photoshop.
Heck, I'm an art student and I can't manage to make digital look like it wasn't done by a sugar-high six year old in Paint.
All my shame. All of it.

Anyway, you've got some nice stuff going on here! I'm especially fond of the goddess one, ahaha. Hoping to see more in the future!

'Bout time. Game's the ****, especially the Milk Man.

I meant to play the darned thing for years, but could never find it.

Then turns out it was on Steam. For a sale!

I just wish the achievements worked.

(Also personaly I liked Goggalor better than Milkman. But to be fair everyone always talked about the Milkman so much, I was expecting a slice of gaming heaven. It probably would have been my fav. level if I hadn't set my expectations so high.)

The name is United States of America, not "America".

It's like if there was a country named "That Country At The South of Asia" and everyone refered to it as "Asia".

Or a dog called "The Dog Belonging to Steve" but everyone called the dog "Steve".

Shortening a name isn't against the law, and if no other country has the name, they don't get the same braggin rights we do. To put it simply: Your country has buyer's remorse, sucks that you can't be known as "America".

Deal with it.

Concept art for Isis.

She is a fairly new character. Kind of. I already had the general idea for a character but never really sat down and drew her.

She's the daughter of a king, and the king her father thought she was so cute, he had her locked up in a tower, protected by female bodyguards, because he was sure otherwise she'd be taken from him.

Grandy, striving to be the greatest thief there was, decided to "steal a glance" of her beauty (yeah I decided Grandy strives to be one of them great theives that steal metaphorical things as well as money).

Getting to the top of the tower, he fell in love... With her female bodyguard, Gillains, who already has a concept art. (yeah our rogue friend has a thing for big breasts. Can you blame him?)

That is the general main points of the plot I have in my head. I might end up writing it in full someday. Short stories. Grandy eventually helps her escape the tower because even if he doesn't feel anything special about her, he just can't stand the idea of being locked up in one place.

And a bonus!

Grandy and some douche!

I'm not sure who that douche is. I never made any mental story of him, and never decided to draw him, and didn't even give him a name, which I do for all characters I draw. One day I was holding a pencil and when I noticed that douche was sitting there. I'm pretty sure black magic was involved.

Also his axe talks. Mostly agrees with people, by going "OOOOOH YEEEEEEEAH", which is it's catchphrase.

Don't ask me how I know that info, I never planned the axe either. My brain is full of weird, it just kind of overflows from time to time.

I hate that word...

I hate when people use gratuituous japanese desu ne.

And for balance, of course.

I like most of 'em!  My only criticism is that the doctors really don't look like the actors they're meant to be; so I'd say drawing real people was your main weakness right now.

I know. :/ Still, I like to think people would recognize them out of a lineup.

Hey guyse, I won't make the name of the topic obnoxious anymore. I'm past that phase.

Anyway, today I bring to you my VERY FIRST attempt to digitally coloring and shading.

I am aware there is a blotch of yellow to the left of the couch, but I had saved it and it is sooooo much work to fix that.

I am also aware there are still sketches marks here and there. Thing is, I started painting this dang-***-painting at 6pm, and finished at 1am, and at that point in time I just did what Goofy is doing up there.

Also, I drew almost everyone (but Goofy) without any reference of any sort, so I got many designes slightly wrong here and there (silver chest hair looks like Shadows', and his eyes aren't perfectly circular, and his gloves are weird, and so and such), but I'm fairly sure every character is recogniseable.

Aso, keep in mind in my infinite wisdom I did this the wrong way around; instead of cleaning the image and then painting it, I had the brilliant idea to paint the image and then clean it. It is harder that way.

Also, originally this drawing had terrible derp eyes that I fixes using the magic of photoshop.

I think thats because I usually draw people from the exact same frontal camera angle and full-bodied, instead of zooming into the action.

Now you both pay me so that I can discuss with myself.

On other news, I just found Reddit's "One Sketch a Day" thingie. That means I'll be uploading more often, I think. But not actual drawins, just sketches. Expect the quality (hah!) of the drawins here to pummel a little, since before I'd posy just the ones I was actually proud of.

Having said that, here's today's sketch, the theme being a tree house.

According to these legal documents my client is in fact your real dad.

The sketch a day thing sounds great, but I suggest you take the opportunity to sketch some stuff 'from life' whenever it fits the theme.  Sketching real things helps your drawing loads.
Title: Re: Grandy's Doodles
Post by: Grandy on February 10, 2013, 03:00:32 PM
Well, as it just turns out, today's theme was to draw the likeness of a real person.

Mine ended more as a caricature, though...

EDIT: Also, I hate my scanner. I had to filter this image in photoshop three times just so the lines are visible, even though they are pretty noticeable in the real-life sketch, and even so his body seems a little faded in here... :/
Title: Re: Grandy's Doodles
Post by: Moosetroop11 on February 10, 2013, 03:37:01 PM
That's good, but not what I was getting at at all.

You're looking at the picture and then drawing your own version of him.  I'm talking about looking at something and copying it perfectly.  Instead of going 'okay he's got a bow tie here' you go 'okay and this line goes like this upwards like so and oh look that's the top of his bow tie.'

Looking at something and then drawing what you think you see can help make a cool cartoon style but won't improve your ability to draw realistic people at all. : p
Title: Re: Grandy's Doodles

Title: Re: Grandy's Doodles

Today's "theme" was to draw in reverse; start with a black background and add white to it.

Interestingly, the 1990s Batman cartoon was drawn and animated in a similar style - they started with black, brown, or other dark colors, and added color on top of it to accentuate the mood needed for properly portraying Batman.

A friend of mine said the same thing (about liking it except the face), but his reason to dislike the face is because he thought it was too generic anime-ish, while the shading and everything else was in a more western style.

I would fix it, but I am afraid I will end up destroying it. :<

Don't be precious about your art. It ruins it. Once you've drawn something, it no longer has value: the skills etc that you gained have value. You can draw it again, and better. Chuck paint on it, tear it up, make it lose it's meaning and then you can draw more freely.

*cough* or something.

Kuturu-chan is a bright girl with dreams of one day becoming a plastic artist, and spends most of her days in the arts and crafts room with her friends!

One day, she meets Nyaratoteppo-kun, and her heart races faster than ever! Her first love and high school days are just beggining! Can she realise her dream and get the attention fo the boy she likes?!

This is a tale of

Title: Re: Grandy's Doodles
Post by: Grandy on November 21, 2013, 05:05:32 AM
No.

I was going to, but then realised it would require effort.

Also I couldn't think of any actual jokes.

Other than a 4 koma where Kuturu-chan would be spying on Neppo-kun playing with a cat (who in each passing panel starts going more insane from looking up close to an eldritch abomination), and starts thinking "Nyaratoteppo-kun sure loves cats" ... "Nyaratoteppo-kun" ... (third panel is Neppo withcat ears) "NYANretoteppo-kun" (fourth panel is she just squealing in delight of the thought while the cat foams from it's mouth)

THAT is the sort of comics I come up with man. It's not worth the effort.
