yes, this is true. but now a days you can jsut buy a keyboard for the playstation. And at times it can be a little faster, because all your worknig with IS the maker. the onyl thing i would say is that if you want something you have to design it yourself or look it up online. Other than that, even the GFX are very well drawn and likeable.

Wow, not having a playstation I wouldn't have known. Isn't that new RPG maker only in japan, or is it here already? For that RPG Maker is there a scripting language like RMXP?

it has been in english now for more than 6 months i think. and yes, the scripting system is like RMXP, but I personally think it's MORE flexible.

EDIT: the one thing i didn't like is the time it took to create an event. it requires some serious patience and planning on everything. But If you do it right, it can come out seriously good.

Okay, shows what I know about playstation 2. This just backs up my theory that going to school makes you socialy retarded. Too bad we don't support RMXP, but I do understand why. Has anybody here used RM95, that and RPG Toolkit is what I use.  (too lazy to start my RM2003 game, even though I own 2003.)
What's nice about RM95 is that converting Charas resources to it is very easy. The only real bad thing about RM95 is that there's no variables, or ability to create any real CBSs or CMSs.
Edit-With any RPG Maker patiance is needed to make a decent game. Personaly I prefer the computer because of the fact that that you can make games and share them.

I have the first RPG Maker, for PS1... I'm not sure if a keyboard is compatable with it, but I don't think it is. Ugh, the horrible memories of punching in each message with the arrows and X button... >_<

Ouch, finger hell. I wouldn't want to do that for every fudging NPC. I'd start having seisures before I got the intro done. I think that to use any real "Role Playing Game" maker you'd have to have a keyboard do to the fact that they're built around the story, which is played out in text. What I'd like to have included for an RPG Maker would be something like the charas generator, because games made with RTP can be very limited, even with  the RTP addon.
Edit- I don't see why RPG Maker can't be released for the computer by ASCII, but we have Don Miguel and Enterbrain to thank for the translation. A neat idea would to translate RPG Maker into n00b, the database would be like "teh 1337 d@t@b@2s" I'd actually like to see that.

I remember using the worst RPGMaker of them all, RPG Maker for the SNES, just horrible. I barely got past creating my char when I quit because of it's.....badness .  :(For me the greatest RPGMaker would be RPG Toolkit, it's easy to learn RPGCode and with the code you can make almost anything. It also comes with a built in graphics editor, that is something you don't see in today's RPGMakers by ASCII. I don't mean to be mean, but Idraw isn't that great, I use photoshop 7.

Idraw is free, and seems to have been made for RPGMaker. I like its functions and use it whenever needed.

I know that, but before I used photoshop I used a freeware image editor called Image Forge and I still use Irfanview for resizing and changing color depth. Idraw is good for RPGMaker but for making really good charsets, sprites or anything I try to use the best I can find, and I doubt many people here own a legal copy of Photoshop, I got mine second hand.

RPG Maker 3 for the PS2 will be something even more great. I guess you could say it's a 3D RM2k3.
