Actually, we can know that for sure.
Napoleon Bonaparte(I think) found back in the late 1800 a stone with on it 3 different writings. One was heiroglyphics and another was greek. And knowing that the Greeks had a form of writing, we can be sure that the heiroglyphes are too.

And of course the bible has been altered. That's what makes it a good fictive novel, the revisions by so many people.

People haven't changed the context of the bible, its just been translated differant ways, and revised to use more modern wording. But there's always the original bible written in herbrew, greek, or whatever it was written in, so it hasn't been altered.
