A good idea is to save each frame as 24-bit BMP or PNG then use a tool like UltimateFX to convert each frame to GIF, that way quality and color isn't lost. I'll try whipping together an example.

Welll... Ultimate FX is free. And I use Unfreeze for the gifs. They are both free and fairly small. Problem is UFX is discontinued, but still excellent.

This is the first part of a pointless story i made, and someday i might get around to writing some more of it:

STEVE AND THE TALE OF JACK SWENSON:
By Goatulon or Tom Parkin

Standing silently looking through the door into the pitch black house, Steve said to himself “Damn its dark in there.” Why Steve was even there at the haunted home of Jack Swenson he wasn’t quite sure, nor did he care. Trying to justify his presence he thought very hard about what had occurred the previous days. He could remember the day, he’d woken up feeling like he needed to vomit, with a huge head ache, and not being able to remember the day before that. He could only assume he had been drunk or something like that. He also realized he wasn’t in his bed but instead he was  slumped over into the middle of his drive way in a pool of drool, alcohol, and his own feces. “What did I do last night?” he wondered.  After dragging himself inside slowly he took a few Aspirin and after taking off his shirt which was covered in many unknown substances he realized there was a paper taped to the back of his shirt. He shoved it into his pocket telling himself he’d read it later then slowly stumbled over to the couch where he proceeded to sleep for an hour or so. Steve awoke feeling better than he had. He rolled over slightly and the piece of paper he had shoved into his pocket fell out onto the floor. Noticing it, he reached down and opened the piece of paper. The paper read:

“Come to 5507 Chicago Avenue on July 21st at 1 AM we need to talk.”
Signed
TT

“Wow” Steve said “1 AM is kind of early, is there any way we can change the time?” as if he actually expected the paper to answer. “This guy is a moron.” That’s what the paper would have been thinking if the paper had thoughts, but that isn’t important to this story or any other.  “Wait, the 21st is tomorrow, which means I have to be there tonight.” Steve thought, “and its 5 PM now, curse the man who thought this up.” So Steve drove to the store down the street, he casually ambled into the store. “EH Steve!” called a voice from across the store. Turning to see who it was that was calling his name he saw Johnny, Steve’s drinking buddy. “EH Johnny!” Steve Yelled back to Johnny. “EH morons” Called the clerk “Stop yelling!” Johnny walked over to Steve, “Man that was some wild time we had last night.” “Yeah, pity I cant remember a single part of it.” Replied Steve. “I’m not surprised, I think you drained the bar of all its liquor.” Johnny remarked. “Did I really?” Queried Steve. Johnny would have said something but in the time it had taken Steve to ask “Did I really” Johnny had assumed the conversation was over said his goodbyes and left. Now Steve was just standing in front of the cabinet full of Mountain Dew. He reached in and pulled out a few bottles, then headed off to the front desk to buy them, stopping to pick up a few caffeine pills, just in case. Dropping them at the front desk, he whipped out his wallet and gave the clerk a ten-dollar bill. “Actually sir its going to cost more than ten dollars.” The clerk said. “Don’t worry you can keep the change.” Steve said as he wandered out the door with his supplies. The clerk thought for a while about doing something, then decided since he was being laid off in a few days anyway, it was pointless.

Steve wondered what time it was, he looked down at his wrist and then realized that he had never in his life owned a watch. He had once drawn a picture of a watch on his wrist when he was just a child, but that had long since washed off. Now all Steve had to do was get to the address on time and he’d be home free. But Steve realized at that moment something terrible “Oh my god” he thought to himself “I’m going to miss the TV premier of the new Taco Bell commercial, why did it have to be at 1 AM.” Steve got home and stared at the TV, mourning the loss of his commercial. But soon enough 11 PM rolled around and Steve figured he’d need all of that time to find the address, so he got off the couch, grabbed the Mountain Dew and caffeine pills and set off to meet his destiny, or at least whoever wrote that note.

After wandering the streets for about an hour Steve came to a house with the correct address, it was in the last place he looked. The fact that it was in the last place he looked was pretty much a given since he didn’t keep looking for the house after he’d found it. He walked slowly up to the houses fence, which he noticed was made out of metal that had rusted in more than one place. Just as Steve opened the gate and looked up at the house on the hill, the dark sky rumbled with thunder and shot lightning forth from the clouds, and somewhere a cat meowed. Steve ambled up the path and the gate creaked shut behind him. And thus Steve arrived at the stage where we entered his tale, Steve opened the door and looked into the pitch black house and he said to nobody in particular “Damn its dark in there.”
