8-bit-style music
« on: July 22, 2006, 12:02:01 AM »
Long story short, is there any feasible way to make music using NES samples? Other than

a) using a soundfont (as I understand it, the soundcard chip is built into my motherboard, so I can't replace it without replacing the entire computer (I might be wrong, though))

b) ripping all of the samples and notes manually and assembling it manually in Sound Recorder

I haven't bothered to search for anything yet, but I want to know if there's an easy solution before I waste time Googling stuff.

If you mean recreating some NES music, I guess you could use a MIDI Maker and 're-compose' it by ear. If not, than I'm not too sure what you mean.

Actually, it's vice-versa. I want to play around with it, and see if I can either compose some original music using NES samples, or just recreate songs using them.

hm... well then, sure. You could get some kind of mixer that allows you to mix, record, place tracks of music, etc. Kinda like a DJ. I've got something liek that, but it's pretty confusing. Takes some time to get use to.

Fruity Loops lets you use soundfonts even if you don't have a Soundblaster card. Example here - I don't have soundfont support on my card but still made that using Fruity Loops.

Don't have the money to dish out for a program like that? Neither did I. Arrrrrrrrrr.

Oh, so you "got it from a friend", right?

Actually, I didn't even consider FL. But would you know offhand if it has a soundset/plugin that would provide me with NES samples?
