Setting up ethernet... with dial-up
« on: July 21, 2006, 08:26:26 PM »
Well heres the problem, I need an ethernet (MAC) adress to install a program. Well, the problem is, I don't have an ethernet adress. Usually they're a bunch of numbers and letters, well I have all zeros. Anyway, I'm thinking this is because I have a dial up connection.

So anyway, is there anyway to set up an ehternet thingy with dial up, or is there a way to give myself a 'fake' adress just to install this program, or maybe I'm just doing something wrong, I'm confused.

What program is demanding your MAC address? Unless you're on a network, which, with dialup, you most likely aren't, you shouldn't have one.

Macs always cause problems when it comes to that stuff. My mother in law had some issue with a program and her internet, and she never got it fixed unless she bought Cable or DSL, anything that would use Ethernet cards.

Her mac had to get a special order to actually use an ethernet card, well mac style I guess.

I hate macs. _sweat_

The program itself isn't important. Lets just say its VERY VERY expensive, and the only crack avalible for it needs you to input your ethernet adress so it can build the lisence file.

And I'm not using a mac computer, its a windows, I just need to find/get a MAC/ethernet adress.

Someone suggested that I bought an ethernet card for $12 and then try it, but I'm not exactly sure if it'll work or not.

Lol, well after some fluke accident, I got the program to work without an ethernet adress. I just renamed a file, then went to try to install it, but the program just opened up and worked instead.

I still don't have an ethernet adress, but I doub't I'll be needing one anytime soon, so I think I'll skip buying an ethernet card for now.
