Windows xp pro sp2 problems

Anyway, I was using windows vista rtm version since december because windows was gay and when i put a new motherboard in my computer, it wouldn't let me use my old windows xp anymore. So last week my windows vista expired finally, and i went back to xp (via a backup disk i stole from my brothers computer). And it was working fine and all, then i download service pack 2 because a few of my programs require it to run. Problem is, after I install it, a lot of things on my computer are messed up.

My question is, did installing service pack 2 for windows xp (i have the profesional addition) mess up their computer? And if so (or not so) how the hell do i get it back to normal.

I have a lot of little things wrong with it, and they are as follows:
1) I can't open the task manager cuz its been 'disabled by the administrator'
2) Windows firewall wont open because the 'associated service isn't running'
3) the assosiated service mentioned above wont open either
4) I can't download torrents
5) the 'my computer' folder opens when i turn windows on (not a big deal)
6) More to come as I find more stuff.

I used to think that microsoft could help me with microsoft related problems. But then a couple of things happened. First of all, a long time ago i got a laptop, the sound died, it wasn't the speakers because if i plugged speakers into the laptop, it still didn't work. I went to the microsoft support area which brought me to a bunch of differant links, the first of which asked me if my speakers were on... yes, then it asked is my volume up... yes, then are you speakers on mute... no, then restart your computer and try again... nothing, then sorry, we can't help you. I tried talking to microsoft again when i put that new motherboard in and my windows stopped working, and I tried once else for some reason.

Long story short, microsoft's help service sucks, and I don't want to waste time trying to figure out whats wrong through them, because honestly, I don't think anyone there will know anything on how to fix this problem.

happened to me too. So I pirated Vista.

I have SP2, and I don't have any of those problems, same with most people I know.  Also, I don't recommend basing your opinion of Microsoft's support on one bad experience.  I'm not vouching for MS or anything, it's just that you seem to holding a grudge.

Yeah, I do hold grudges, when it comes to service at least. For example, I hate geek squad becase of a bad experiance. I took my laptop there because it wasn't working. They say they'd take a look at it, and they charged me $50. Then, a couple of days later I went back in, and this is what they told me, we couldn't get it to work, we don't know whats wrong with it, you should take it to gateway. Thanks geeksquad...

Microsoft is ok, just i never got any good help or information from them.

Anyway, I got it fixed (not really). I was gonna use system restore to go back to  before i installed sp 2. But apparently it was disabled by the admin... So i just reinstalled a fresh copy of windows. And thats that.

I know what you mean about holding grudges though, it's very easy.  For example, when my mom was looking to buy a new car, we met a wonderfully idiotic person who works for Hyundai.  Apparently, you aren't allowed to test drive a car until you put your first payment down, because apparently they don't want to add mileage to the cars in the lot.  This is why she purchases a Mitsubishi Eclipse.
