Horrid Server Change, SMF, etc.

So those of you who have stopped by in the past two days have been very confused and probably dissappointed at the state of Charas.

What happened was this: We were told by our host that we were being shuttled over to a new server just last week. We spent time trying to fix up the site to make the switch. At the same time, work on a switch to a new forum system was finishing up and I decided that the downtime of the server change would be as good a time as any to make the switch: Previous tests of making the conversion had been completed and supposedly everything was fine.

Well, everything wasn't fine. The script to convert posts wasn't working like it should've and the new posts that were transfered to the new forum were screwy. Threads weren't appearing or were containing posts from other threads, forum settings were screwed up, etc. Plus everyone hated the layout of the new forum.

Things weren't improved when I was called away moments after making the new forum public to spend about 8 hours in the emergency room with my grandmother, who took a nasty fall. She's fine, but in the meantime the half-broken site sat around festering. And when I got back, our good friend Moosetroop related to me all the horrid mess that was left after the shoddy conversion. I fixed what I could, deemed the site not-broken-enough, and tried to get some sleep. 7 hours later I woke up to find even more problems, especially with the new forum design and missing threads.

I would've like to start fixing these, but the server decided we didn't have permission to edit our own website and disallowed me to make changes. After fighting with the website for a few more hours, along with several other non-charas-related things going wrong today, I decided the best thing to do right now was to restore the old PUB, get it up and running, and then sit back and try to figure out what to do from there.

Alex and I just finished fixing a few problems with the old forum that were disallowing posting, and other than that everything should be functioning as it did before.

tl;dr: A series of unfortunate events raped both myself and Charas hard. What happens next is still being discussed.

I'm so sorry Osmose had to face all of this, unfortunatly this 2nd server change wasn't really expected.
And believe me, behind the scenes he really did the incredible in all this story: this new server is very far to be a "normal" one. We all owe him something.

About the previous setup:
I didn't like how close my sig was to whatever I typed. Give it more space, an actual way to change titles, and it would've been fine with me, to be honest.
