Monster hunter 3
« on: June 30, 2010, 07:24:47 AM »
I admit that I'm new to the series but I just got this game.

Anyone else got it? I heard that the Monster hunter game for the PSP were grand but I like the 3rd instalment a lot so.

I just love how the game puts you in to face this huge monster and you gotta beat it. It takes a long time to slap him over and before you're done celebrating you realize that the new mission is against a worse enemy. One with even more health, higher attack and wider attacks.

The whole "kill large monsters" concept is great, they don't go down that easilly after all. They run away, feast on some carcasses or splash around in mud/water to restore their stamina. They sometimes just escapes which leaves you wondering where the hell they went.

Anyway, anyone else got this game? And if so - tried the online mode of this? If yes - is it very laggy or does it work?

I have Monster Hunter Freedom 2 on the PSP, and to be honest, I'm not a fan of it. Yeah, it's great fighting large monsters, creating or improving equipments, etc. but it gets boring to always get 1 mission, go on the field, complete it, come back, get another mission, repeat, etc. I'd prefer a game where you could wander on the field freely, then be able to take more than one mission at times, and not have a loading every minutes because you change "zone".

It's not all that bad, but it could be way better.

In monster hunter 3 you can wander the first "dungeon" place from town, and things you kill there can be turned in for resources and stuff.
And random large monsters spawn on different days as well as the materials you can find.
But just the first place.

And yeah, one mission at a time is kinda annoying - but at least you have subquests to complete within each quest. It makes the quest a little more interesting. And you'll probably take a mission just to get the materials in that certain area.

Anyone try GodEater yet? I've been tempted to a few times.

Looking for a translation project to help in also...

Someone forgot to bring paintballs :v

And yeah, I play Freedom Unite on the PSP a ton, it's great. Kinda a shame that they axed two of my favourite weapon classes in Tri; gunlances and dual blades.

Well, you get two for free, but they run out at the worst times, like the moment your prey buries underground or so to leave. Makes you say "beaversarous crap" and running around like a fool.

But Tri has the switch axe, no idea if any other weapon is exclusive.  I gotta admit that dual blades sound fun, the game kinda lacks fast weapons beside the sword and shield.

damn, those gunlances looks awesome.

Yes yes, easy to make but you forget to use them after a while. And just when you realize that there's no marker on the map anymore - the beast flew away/buried underground/ran like a schoolgirl into a hole or something like a hole.
Of course, your sidekick got an equipment that can feel large monsters, but it prevents him from attacking.

Also, there are some "gathering tours"-quests in monster hunter 3 where you can do pretty much whatever you want in that area and then return home by turning in a Paw Pass. Great when you're looking for certain bugs and such.
