What I found is that even if a file isn't an avi, you can just rename it to video.avi, and it sometimes can be played in rm2k3, provided that your computer can play the original type of file.
Otherwise, a better idea would be to just convert the video to an avi.

Hell Yeah! Just recovered all my old rm2k/3 games from my 10 year old, broken laptop hard drive that had been formatted and had a new OS installed on it. Oh, and I did all of this from my phone. WIN
