Bethedsa games are... Weird. They're always these huge undertakings that are actually really nice on a holistic view (Graphical quality, Music (THE MORROWIND THEME WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU.), Gameplay ideas), but when you get to the details (Animations, Bugs, and how the gameplay holds up over time; repetitiveness), it kind of lingers.

Thankfully, they have a really big and compatible modding community (The way Bethedsa sets up their games actively encourages modding. Valve, on the other hand, I guess tolerates it, but never outright endorses it), so I guess I don't love Bethedsa's games, but every one who plays and mods them.

What? Clearly, you know nothing of Valve.

They actually endorse it a LOT. They've been known to put popular mods onto the Steamworks platform so they get better coverage, and they've even helped make some mods into retail games (Garrysmod). They also hired the designer of the HL2 mod Minerva: Metastasis to do a lot of the level design for HL2: Episode 3. Also, any purchase of their games gives you an SDK to develop mod, and they have an extensive wiki on using the Source SDK.

Oh goddamnit, I sound like a fanboy now.

Valve games are probably some of the most most modded games today!

Steam even store the mods for you to download!

Bethesda games? When speaking of Bethesda there are really only 3 games worth mentioning; Morrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout 3. Fallout 3 wasn't as good as all of my friends claimed it was. I played a lot of Oblivion (probably too much) and that game was way superior to Fallout 3. Although Fallout was pretty cool too, just not as fun as Oblivion.

Valve is a much better company.

Maybe it's my fault. I play Valve games 24/7, so when comparing any company in the entire world to Valve, they're not gonna be as good.

It helps to remember that Bethesda's games are more RPG than action. You're not really supposed to play them in an action-y way. If you think it's gonna be an FPS with level ups, you're way wrong. Hell, I never play Fallout 3 with the standard shooting unless it's a heavy weapon against a tough foe, or if it's a sniper weapon. Otherwise, VATS is the way to go.

I would like if the Elder Scrolls games would go back to the much superior RPG styling of Daggerfall. The combat has been massively improved over the years, but almost everything else falls short.
