I'm getting pretty anxious to have my game taken a look at to see whether or not it's good so far, but about how far into it should I be before a demo is released? Should the demo just be the first "chapter" of the game or so? About how long in minutes? I'm just looking for any answers from people who have released demos in the past.
Anyways, I'm not going to release the demo immediately anyways. I still need to fiddle with things here and there, like get a battle charset for one of my major characters, and stuff like that.
And I think I need better minigames/puzzles. Most of them are based on random events, etc, and from what I've heard that's not preferrable. :/
Oh well, any input?

I put out demos as "production pieces" of my game...I'll make a little...then perfect that whole portion...then put out a demo so I don't have to go back to that part and fix things when i am already far ahead of that...it should be three to four parts... depending how long your game is...

About 15-20 % of the entire game is a good sized demo. If yo make a 2nd demo make it 56-60%, then the final. Legend of Lea was perfectly done...you can use that as an example.

I like to start off the game and go up to the first boss. this way I know if the intro is good and I wont give much of the game away in the demo.

I'd say if your rpg has a massive map,then make a map demo where you can explore the map and whatnot,and add a few quirks to help keep people going back to it trying to find new stuff.Or you can do that to add more background to a rpg by introduceing the characters and such in a demo like that.And of course provide background info if needed.
But a nice story demo works nice.it can really add some suspense while people wait for the real deal to come out.
