Eternity's End: Startin' Again
« on: May 02, 2005, 03:49:56 AM »
Right, due to, shall we say popular demand, I have restarted Eternity's End completely, incorporating as much feedback as I possibly can.

The Plot thus far: The main character (you name him yourself but his default name is Coal) wakes up one evening in a forest, a fair black haired girl about his age staring down at him. He has no clue where he is, or what's going on. No duh, amnesia. (cliche, I know.) The girl introduces herself as Tash. She is capable of manipulating time and space, using some unexplained power from a source that she does not understand. Magic. Now, unlike FF6 ('cause I KNOW that's what you're thinking), she, nor anybody else, has any idea what it is. She mentions something called a Soul Sifter, which seems to ring a bell with Coal. Tash leads Coal to her home, Toara. The next night, as they check in to her parents inn, a three strange black creatures materialize and attack. Coal then remembers one of his own special abilities, to use his emotions as an attack of healing skill.

Now, what yet to be revealed: Soul Sifters are servants of the Eternity's End, a destroyer of planes. It destroyed Coal's plane but he was strong enough to be warped to another. The Eternity's End is a swirling mass of magic, and in casting spells, you are tapping into the End's power and using it. In order to stop itself from being weakened, it destroys any plane in which a spell caster is born.

Your goal is to stop it.

Characters (or what I have thus far):
Name: Coal
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Special Ability: Emotion
Bio: Not much is known about Coal's past. Little bits of his memory come back as the game progresses. As a result, he is often quite confused and shows a wide variety of powerful emotions.

Name: Tash
Age: 22
Gender: Female
Special Ability: Magic
Bio: Tash is a cheerfull woman who took it upon herself to help Coal get his memory back.

Name: Ember
Age: 5
Gender: Male
Special Ability: Command
Bio: Ember is a large husky who somhow got warped with his owner, Coal. His commands can only be used if Coal is in the party. Otherwise, he can only attack and run.

Name: Alec
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Special Ability: Sacrifice
Bio: A noble knight in the court of Tryan, who leaves with his sister Tash to help her and Coal protect the world from the Eternity's End. He is loyal to his comerades and willing to take blows for them.

Name: Kayla (optional)
Age: 31
Gender: Female
Special Ability: Gadget
Bio: Amelia is a skilled inventor, who can make some pretty whacky gadgets. She joins Coal and the others to broaden her horizons and look for inspiration for new inventions.

Special Systems:
Emotions
Gadgeteering
Spellcrafting

These will be elaborated upon either tomorrow or the days after, as I am much too tired to explain them right now.

Thanks! :D

Alright, because I can't sleep I'm gonna elaborate on the three systems mentioned earlier:

Emotions
Basically, every one of Coal's emotions has a variable. It's effect on him and his party members depends on how high or low it is.
EXAMPLE: If Coal's happiness is 2, he'll be restored 30 HP. If it's 20, he and the entire party will be fully healed.
There are different ways to power up various emotions. EXAMPLE: Defeating an enemy in the presence of Coal will make him happier.
Events too, will have an effect on his emotions.

Gadgeteering
There are gadgeteering stations all over the world. Amelia can use them to build herself new machines. In order to do so, you need supplies. Each gadgeteeting station carries different supplies, so it's important to go back and forth to fully benefit from this system.
Each gadget has three components; the chasis, which is the base. The function, and the support. EXAMPLE:
Gun (Chasis) + Rapidfire (Function) + Shuriken (Support) = AUTO SHURIKEN LAUNCHER

SpellCrafting
SoulSifters often carry mysterious gems called Soul Shards, each with it own special property. If you go to any station of the rock collector's club there will be three cauldrons, usualy made for making precious gems, these can be sued to make spell shards. The kinds of cauldrons:
Fusion: Basically shoves from 2 to 4 soul shards into one. There is the lowest number of available spells from this one, but the most powerful.
Mixed: Liquifies 2 to 4 soul shards and mixes them into a new one. A great ammount of spells can be made with this, but they're not as powerfull as those from a fusion cauldron.
Split: Tries to split the powers of 2 to 4 crystals and still make one spell. Split spells are the hardest to make but are well worth the effort.
If you manage to make a spell shard, you must equip it as Tash's accesory. After the 'shard' command (which activates the shard's ability) is used somewhere from 20 - 50 times, Tash will learn the spell, and be able to move on to another shard. The shard will shatter after the spell is learnt.

That's all for now!

Some spellcrafting and gadgeteering combos and another new system!
SpellCrafting combos:
Heat Shard + Heat Shard + Fusion = Flame Shard
Cold Shard + Cold Shard + Fusion = Freeze Shard
Liquid Shard + Liquid Shard + Fusion = Water Shard
The combinations above can also be Mixed, but will not be as powerfull.
Storm Shard + Fire Shard + Fusion = Rain of Fire
Wind Shard + Cascade Shard + Mix = Storm Shard
Fire Shard + Liquid Shard + Liquid Shard + Mix = Boil Shard
Freeze Shard + Freeze Shard + Flame Shard + Flame Shard + Split = Fire and Ice Shard

Gadgeteering combo:
Megaphone (Chasis) + FlameThower (Function) + None (Support) = FLAMING VOICE
The louder you shout, the more fire you cause! :D

The new system: The Zoom System
The Zoom System is made to allow you to further explore the overworld, so to speak. When on the overworld in a charted area, there will be a path to follow. Should you leave the path, you can press space, to get a closer look at the area arround you. In these 'zoom areas' there aren't 'random encounters' so to speak, but wandering monsters. Some will go about ther business, some will chase you, others will run from you. To start a battle, they have to run into you or vice versa. On the overworld, there WILL be random encounters, but they'll be relatively rare.

Screenies! (Yee hee hee!)
That's right, screens! And lots of 'em!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v219/gruntmyster/screen1.png
Brilliant deduction!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v219/gruntmyster/screen2.png
The overworld at night! Oh MY! For the record, that chipset isn't RTP.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v219/gruntmyster/screen3.png
THAT, however IS RTP. I plan to get rid of it as soon as I find a better one.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v219/gruntmyster/screen4.png
The overworld during the day. I dare say I wonder what ever would happen should I press, oh say... the space bar?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v219/gruntmyster/screen5.png
GASP! Could it be? It IS! The legendary ZOOM MAP! Ooh... I wonder what would happen if I got too close to that bee?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v219/gruntmyster/screen6.png
GASP AGAIN! I am doing battle! Lookit the little guys! Whee!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v219/gruntmyster/screen7.png
GASP THRICE! Coal runs up to an enemy to attack it instead of swiping his weapon at a long range and somehow managing to hit it! Oh JOY! OH RAPTURE!

I will have beta tester once I've done a little bit. I'm not very far into the game. I'll have a demo eventually. :) Plus, I got a new forest tileset meaning I'm redoing two of my maps.

And as for the gasping. A bit of a joke, eh?
